So Hi there dakka dakka! been a bit since i last posted but i read every week or so heh, I was kinda wondering what most of you do to get better motivation out of the 40k hobby? For example....i have about 20 boxes of stuff for my Sons of russ (including forgeworld items) and a bunch of Demon stuff (another 10 boxes of goodies) i really would like to put together, but im having a hard time...well sitting down and doing it. aside from my SO kinda driving me batty on it, the local scene where i am at is molding into power games who rules lawyer most 90% of the games played. only the really good players (there are abotu 3 of us) have any fun anymore and speed games along and barley look into the book, which the local scene i guess destroys my motovation to even play or work toward a better army.

I would like a better painted army for both my Fantasy, and 40k armys, (wood elves, Space Wolves, and chaos demons) but that motivational lacking is really hurting my goals and i refuse to work on anything if im not ganna actually put good effort into it.

So what do you do to get motivated again? i've tryed alot of things, especially reading these forums and looking at the painting blogs and whatnot and i get really exited about it, but when im sitting down in my chair and staring at the project infront of me, i click the light off and move on? any advice on how to fix this?

I was gonna say play a game...that always helps me. Maybe try only working on one or two models at a time. Completely finish them, right up to the clear coat. That way you have a sense of accomplishment and don't feel so overwhelmed.

I look at the conversions on this site, then tell myself "I want to say I made one of those". Or if you need some direct motivation....

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Motivation can be hard. I just got back into the game after a bit of a ten-year break, so I have a lot of ideas that I can't wait to get finished up. But what my problem back in the day was, I would work on three or four different projects concurrently and none of them would ever get done. These days, I find I have a lot more discipline to finish one project before moving onto another. But I build and paint for its own joy, the game is a bit secondary to me.

I've been playing Warhammer 40,000 since 1988, and am just coming back from a bit of a 10-year hiatus. And please excuse any wild accusations, hallucinations, or outright factual errors, as I am recovering from a serious head injury. And Warhammer 40,000 is part of my therapy. OH YEAH!

Well i suppose the game and the hobby are about the same for me, i PREFER to play with painted and modeled well, models that are nicly done, and i have a few of those, but i dont mind feidling primed models im currently working on to get a good game in, and i never complain to bad when someone proxy's something (as long as its easily identifiable, i.e same base size or something!) and i do finish projects i just suppose ive been having a hard time getting enjoyment out of it in the local area. Most the players i enjoyed playing are moving on and the rest are....well, dont care about the hobby and just wanna make the worst cheesist lists ever and go to play new people and crush them and then they quit....and i just cant seem to get down to play alot. (the whole reason i started chaos daemons was so the newbie players could play against me and have an easier, more fun time then playing my wolves....and so they could win sometimes!) i tend to like fluffy lists and things, but i can be more then competative, but i guess im just looking for good fun games with unique situations and good opponents while i paint and put things together...

Just kinda hard to motivate myself to get back to it!

But like i said the forums here and painting / modeling sections help for sure

I throw on a funny movie and sit down with my modeling stuff and have at it if I really am having trouble getting motivated to do anything. The movie gives me something else to be doing whilst I work so it doesn't seem as tedious and while I may not get as much done at least I'm getting Something worked on.

I would say make sure you have a good couple of hours where you can work without being interrupted, throw on a good movie or some music and enjoy. I do this, as I use the Mega Paint Set, I can pretty much paint anywhere so I just sit on my bed watching a couple of episodes of House You don't have to have the MPS or anything to enjoy it, just make sure you won't be interrupted by anything major. Alternatively, you could try modelling something that you haven't tried before, go for something unique that would challenge your skills.
