Hey I am looking at getting into BFG but the cost is a bit much for something I am not even sure I will like. So I was thinking about building my own imperial fleet. Does anyone know the relative size/dimensions of imperial ships? Also has anyone done this with a tutorial? I looked but I couldn't find one thanks for your help.

Don't have my models out to give you a scaling picture; however, everyone I've introduced to the game has loved it. You only need a handful of ships to start out and to get the feel of it. Rules are free in PDF now from GW.
Wish more people played!

Yea if I can give it a shot and get a good enough grasp on it to I intend to take a couple of ships and start integrating BFG into the 40k we play for campaigns. If I can get a couple of the 40k players to give it a shot that is.

As far as I'm concerned, this is THE site for BFG conversions/scratchbuilding:
http://www.angelfire.com/games4/chubbybob/bfg1.htm
Especially check out the antibess II STC, where a lot of scratchbuilding is done:
http://www.angelfire.com/games4/chubbybob/antibes_iii_stc.htm
He uses GW weapon pallets and turrets, but builds the rest of the ship. Example:

Ooh BFG looks fun. Can you buy official models or is it all scratchbuilds?

@John thanks man that site is awesome I am definitely going to have to try some of that, doubt it will look half as good but it should be fun.
also just to put it out there if anyone wants to trade some imperial or similar ships bits or what nots (including transports or anything that can be used in an imperial fleet) here is a list to my 40k trade thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/330062.page

Where? GW, Forge World? I'd like to combin this with Apocalypse and Planetary Empires.
