Do people in 40k celebrate Christmas???

I know the emporer eradicated religion and all that but hear me out.

X-mas has become more of a commercial thing and less religious, so would it be safe to say that it would no longer have any religious bearing but a corporate one? Althought the caring and sharing part still remains, many people don't follow it out of some religious obligation...

So could it?
Could in the universe of 40k, there would be some people who still practise chrismas?

Well the Big E eradicated religion during the time of the great crusade but shortly before the horus heresy people began to worship him (according to the HH novels fluff). Now the Emperor has been elevated to godhood and many planets and systems have their own particular saints and holy figures. I would assume they dont celebrate the "birth of christ" and dont have the corporate structure to maintain a commercial Christmas as we know. However i'm sure that the denizens of the 40K universe each celebrate some sort of saints day or founding day where people gather and give thanks to the Emperor and any local saints.

Each World apparently has it's own holidays and cultures. Extends to the SMs as well. However none of them really is "christmas". Plus, Santa would be hard pressed to fly to all of those planets in one night ;D

....wait....that means santa is a daemon if he can do that....

I love DakkaDakka, we've gone from debating weather Christmas is celebrated in the Imperium, to the notion the Inquisition is actually hunting down a Daemonic Santa Claus.

Well, apparently there is a long-running battle over Christmas between the forces of Order and Chaos. Every year at my FLGS, there's a huge Apocalypse battle called the Assault on Santa's Workshop - the forces of Order and Chaos meet on a battlefield to fight to save/protect Santa (Order) or enslave him (Chaos).

One of the guys at the place actually made up a Santa model with a retinue of elves...and then the subsequent year (which was this year) made up a huge death camp to defend, since Chaos won last year.

Come to think of it Santa is probably an Ork. His Sleigh is red and travels at impossible speeds. He's helped by little green elves (possibly grots) and can make toys out of anything (much like an Ork Mek Boy). SANTA IS AN ORK I TELLZ YA!

I personally feel the relgious correlation dissipates more each year. To most, like myself, its not about relgiion. Even one of the most Notorious atheists Madalyn Murray O'Hair loved Christmas. I love the good feelings christmas brings. I like the happiness I feel spending time with my family, society seems in general more pleasant (unless you go out shopping ). I like to see the selflessness of people, I like that for a few weeks out of the year I can listen to music around my daughter that isnt dropping the f-bomb every 10 seconds. I love the winter season, and love seeing Christmas lights. To me, it has no religious connection. --this seems more like an off topic thread

That's what i was trying to get at... it's not religious so wouldn't the emprah keep it?

off topic thread? I'm sorry this is only my 4th thread, I'm still relatively new.

anyways... I'm pretty sure this thread is done now.

Thanks all.
