So I am wanting to make a Necron themed battlefield. What I'm wanting is for the terrain to be interactive in that it gives benifits or disadvantages. I'm also wanting half the table to be open desert and the other half to be the interior of a Necron Tomb.
What I would like suggestions on is differant terrain pieces I could make and affects they could have on units nearby. For instance I'm already thinking about a Necron essence extractor and any unit that is near it has the chance to regain wounds as captured life essence is transfered to them. And not every piece of terrain needs to be beneficial. Another example I thought of is the Necron Lords stasis chamber which will have a throne in the center and will have a negative moral effect on any unit in a certain range.

Maybe get inspiration by the Dawn of War: Dark Crusade Necron terrain. I build a half awaken Monolith because of that.
Also Hirst has some nice Necron tiles you can use, see entrance on the right. Armorcast also has some nice techno Egypt items.

Think Tron + Egypt for actual aesthetic ideas. As for interactivity, there could be a generator awakening Necrons. It could be an objective and as long as no one is controlling it or contesting it, it will generate necrons every turn. You could also make pylons as guard turrets. Then there could also be trap doors and stasis pods where individual necrons are sleeping and can be triggered.

I think an easy source for some of the look of the interior could be taken from the borg hives, perhaps blend in some of the early Gou'auld stuff from Stargate if you want to play up the egyptian side of things. For the desert area, place ruins in sand dunes so it looks like they've had the ground leverls buries, or obelisk type necron terrain. Just my two cents.

With respect to everyone I'm not looking for ideas on the style of how the terrain should look, I'm looking for ideas on specific pieces that can have effects. Such as the Necron generator above or the examples I gave

Sort of implies style as well but whatever. Maybe some sort of pylon then give it the effect to cancel out psychic powers within a certain range of it.

Then read up on their background for ideas of what to build, look at DoW pictures to see their structures, look at the codex. Not for the style, but the what.
Generally they don't have a lot of structures as most of it is underground as their tombs. So really you could maybe build the tomb entrance and there really wouldn't be that much more.
It doesn't all need to be crazy forests like WHFB it can look good and not have an effect. All that will pretty much work is leadership modification (as in the lesser races being unsettled by the ruin), something to awaken more Necrons, or as bit of a stretch something to go against Psykers.

I have, i own the codex as well as a number of books containing them. They don't contain much which is why I'm asking

I am aware that it dosen't need to have any effect. I'm not doing this out of a need, I want to make terrain with rules.

Generators-I bonus. Sentry towers-Any unit within 12" can draw line of sight from it. Teleport nodes-Same effect as the monoliths 2nd WBB but only within 12". Control nodes-Necron units with 6" of this always get WBB Vents for scarabs to enter/exit-Spawns D3 units of scarabs each turn. Half awakened monolith (Still mostly underground)-Objective. I think there is some confusion though. I am litteraly going to make half of the board as the interior of a Necron Tomb, it's not just going to be a big building on half the table models will be able to go into it. It will almost be like that Dwarf Hold GW made a few years back, half the table was open, there was a gate into the hold and then the hold itself.

Still you can get ideas by DoW Necron terrain, that has specific looks AND abilities (e.g. official generator design), including the several stages of a Monolith. There are also several fan-made tomb interior maps on filefront.

If I remember in DoW they had beacons within the Tomb, giving certain benefits to the necrons ranging from Anti-tank immunity to continual respawns. However if that's the case then the Beacons should be destroyable.
If you reallly want a challenge, make a Beacon for the Deciever or Nightbringer and make it so that as long as the Beacon was functioning, the C'Tan in question will revive on the next Necron Turn if it was destroyed (at any point due to any reason, even being turned into a Chaos Spawn), sort of like a Dungeon Boss or something.

Yes to the first, yes to the second, but only insofar as we keep to the shallows as much as possible....sorry coulden't help it
This is what I'm looking for except the effects won't be just for Necrons they will be universal for every army.
I'll say it again to make it official. I do NOT need terrain making tutorials, layouts of tombs or visual referances on what style the terrain should look like.

Maybe something that would give the Necrons WBB no matter what and any other army gets FnP... maybe something like an uber res orb.
Chamber of Ressurection.
(Circular chamber with a pedestal with an orb ion it)
The orb inside the chamber is similar to the ressurection orbs carried by Necron Lord but the one situated inside the chamber is far more potent. So much so it even affects other species other than Necrons.
Power generator (Minimum of 3)
The power generators power the entire tomb. At least 1 must be controlled by either army for anyone to gain the effects from other terrain pieces e.g. ressurection chamber.
If no one controls a power generator the tomb falls silent and none of the especial effects can be applied.
If 1 side controls all of the generators the range for special terrain affects is doubled for that side only. e.g. if the range of a special effect is 6" for the side controlling all the generators it is 12".
