Hypothetical - You have 5 Wolf Guard, all with combi-plasmas. They are identical. You decide to rapid fire with your plasmas. Do you:

A) Roll 10 dice, see how many one's you roll, and make your Get's Hot saves?

OR

B) Roll 5 groups of 2 dice, under the assumption that there are 5 guns, and thus there can only be 5 'Get's Hot' results (which means when any pair of dice comes up snake eyes it counts as one Get's Hot result)?

It's option B. Each weapon of every type is fired individually. Most of the time, it doesn't matter, but Get's Hot is an example of when you need to roll each model's shots individually.

Grakmar has it.

The same holds true in similar situations- like when you have a squad of assault terminators with thunder hammers in a SM army with Vulkan. He makes each hammer master-crafted, so each can re-roll one attack per turn. So you have to roll each termie's attacks separately.

You roll 10 dice, each 1 is a wound from Gets Hot. It is possable to take 10 wounds, but you get a Armor Save for each one.

Because each guy has his own gun, which can only kill that model if it overheats. If you roll TWO 1s with a single plasma gun, those wounds can only kill that single model. If you roll them all together you have no way of knowing whether any given two overheats came from the same gun. Unless you roll five different colors of dice, of course, which is mechanically the same thing as rolling them individually.

You can get a 'Gets Hot' on any of the dice. If each gun is rapid firing, then each COULD get 2 'Gets Hot'. So you could, as improbible as it may be, get 10 'Gets Hot'.

You certainly can get 10 wounds from 5 rapid fire plasma weapons. (The odds are 1 in 60.5 million).

The issue is more important for things like 2 wounds on those 5 guys. If you rolled separately (as you should), those 2 wounds may be on 2 different models or both wounds could be on the same model.

Gets Hot wounds don't carry over from model to model, so depending on rolls, you could end up with more guys alive by keeping their shots separate.

Ah sorry, I messed up my hypothetical a little bit. One rapid firing gun could cause two wounds, it is just that those two wounds can ONLY be put on the firer of that specific gun as you said. (And now that I looked this up I feel stupid for asking this). B) should read:

B) Roll 5 individual groups of 2 dice, one group for each marine. Make Get's Hot saves.

Source: Pg 31. rulebook, "For each result of 1 rolled on its to hit rolls, the firing model suffers a wound." Since a gun fires twice, there is a chance of it giving two wounds to the firer, and there is a 0% chance (per the rule) of the gun giving a wound to another member of the squad. Therefore, they must always be rolled individually.
