I bought fulll units of both and just can't get them to work properly.
Any suggestions would be great.

Id like to know on the stealth suits for sure. My brothers g/f has some and she loves them and so wants to use them all the time, so any ideas on them would be great.

As far as stealth suits are concerned, shelve them till the new codex comes out and hopefully makes them useful again. Crisis suits are simply better point for point and all the stupid "tricks" in the world won't save you against a decent army.
Pathfinders are pretty good however. I've been itching to get my Tau on the table and try something I've been thinking about and it's basically putting a shas' with them in irridium armor, 2 shield drones, stimms, t/l missile pod, target lock and soak up as much small-medium arms fire as possible per turn to keep them alive and marking things. This also has an added bonus of upping the LD to 9 or 10.
Game wise you should try to take 8 if you're going to take any because you have to buy a devilfish, or you can look at it as you want a devilfish for your fire warriors and might as well get some pathfinders to make that prospect more palatable.
Using them is a trick though because you have to really get your target priority and understand your opponent to make full use of pathfinders. That means you need to know what the other codecies can do to take real advantage of them. Do some online research about what your frequent opponents run and learn from experience if you have to (though that's more painful usually lol).

Pathfinders are a must, mostly for more markerlights. Stealth suits have a few uses. Best way I've seen is to out-flank with them, then spam as many s5 shots into the back of an unsuspecting tank or some low-save infantry. But, as stated, crisis suits are better in 80% of situations. Always remember that Tau are a very tricky army right now that takes a lot of patience and tact to run. Most people around here are going to tell you to ''mech up'' or ''use kroot bubblewrap'', but knowing how to use all of the units in your 'dex will help you in the long run imo.

I've never had much luck with either. I don't think that Stealth Suits have much use; they're too weak for the points cost. If they were Fast Attack there might be an arguement, but Crisis Suits are better. If you do want to use Stealth Suits, take advantage of the Stealth Field to avoid long range fire. Just keep in mind that it can be unpredictable. They do well gunning at enemy hordes: 18 shots, 9 hits, 6 wounds vs. T4. Targeting Arrays can help a lot in that situation, but are really expensive for a squad that size. Fusion blasters give Stealth Suits the ability to engage enemy heavy armor, but costs them some of their anti-horde power. Plus, stealth fields are pretty useless at 12" let alone 6". As for pathfinders, I really haven't had good luck with them. I only run them in large games where I've maxed out my Heavy Support and have at least two crisis teams fielded first, but most people seem to differ with me here. The mandatory devilfish makes them less attractive, but you could always give it to a Fire Warrior squad.

Pathfinders are a must have above 1000 pts. They greatly increase the effectiveness of all of your other units, and you can give their devilfish to your firewarriors to save points. I leave pathfiners vanilla.
Stealthsuits... I don't like them. They have short range guns, and their one good special rule doesn't work in close range, so I consider them a redundant unit. Some people seem to have success with them, and so in that case I will just say go with it. I never equiped stealthsuits, if I did, I would give them targeting arrays.
Pathfinders are pretty much a must have, stealthsuits are iffy. If you find they continue to fail, just don't use them.
