Was looking for plastic spheres for ball and socket joints on a planned scratch build, does anyone have any recommendations. Was thinking of beads or BBs but does anyone know of an easy way to get hold of 'em (maybe from toys etc..). Preferably solid or robust hollowcore, Dimensions wanted: ~0.5 cm diameter ~1cm diameter, ~1.5 cm diameter, ~2cm diameter. Finally while i'm here can anyone give me the X and Y dimensions of a Crisis battlesuit?

Try marbles first of all and then how about greenstuff?

Didnt seem to post all of the message, weird.

If you find something that is the perfect size, simply greenstuff press mould it for copies, also you know you those scented wooden balls?
buy some of those, they smell great () and once the smell wears off, use them. Cant think of anything else of the top of my head atm

Cheers for the response mate. Was worried this was gonna go unanswered. Do you remember where you got them/how big they are? I like the idea of a nice smelling hobby resource.

Standard Airsoft BBs are .6cm diameter, so they might work on the smaller end of the spectrum. A number of games utilize plastic marbles in the ~1cm range, perhaps slightly larger, but I don't know how readily you'd be able to find them for purchase, separately.

Are you married to plastic? You'd have a much easier time finding the sizes you want as steel ball bearings or glass/clay/stone/wood beads, but that might give you attachment and weight issues, which are what I assume lead you to plastic in the first place.

Cheers for the airsoft suggestion. 0.6cm sounds perfect! Yeah it is purely a weight issue, plus i would have thought steel would run up quite the tab.

For the small ones, I love round headed pins.

They're great because you can cut down the length of the pin itself to be shorter, and then use that to pin the ball onto the arm, making it a much sturdier joint. You could probably find them in larger sizes too, but I've only used them for Marines so far and just picked up a little thing of them at Micheal's.

take a quick look round a hobby craft in the Jewellery making and craft sections.

Metal and plastic beads are available.

Also why not metal? as ball bearings may be an option?

You cant let a thread go un-answered! The ones I had were probably about 2/3", just google 'scented wooden balls' and they pop right up. WD comsumes them like a fat lady in cake shop.

These are all great ideas! Mite try plastic beads first and ball headed pins (wish i'd thought of that!). As unfortunately Airsoft ammo is, understandably, only available in multiples of 1000... Not
Metal? Expense, weight and i'm pretty sure steel needs more than a dab of superglue....
