Somewhere in the dark...

I have googled every combination 'jungle hobby trees', model jungle trees' etc but there seems to be a great lack of places that sell these things in high quantities at good prices.

Can anyone tell me of a place where I can buy jungle trees that I can use for WH40K that isn't massively overpriced?

Thanks.

I cant tell you a cheap source for them.

Also depends on what you mean by jungle trees? What do you want them to look like?

I made some simply from a fake fern and bamboo, or driftwood stalks, all available from craft stores. Small size plastic fern spikes are sometimes as cheap as .99 cents a spike, and range up to $3.

Here's an image of trees made in this way.

these are simpler (and cheaper) with cut cloth areas and bamboo washer bases with the fern tops.

These were built from driftwood section trunks from a pet store with drilled holes for the spikes and Masonite bases with sand added, they are a bit nicer,
a bit more organic and about twice the materials cost for production A dismantled sectioned (office decor) style ficus tree cut into section also supplied
some of the trunks as well.

The key is to also make the area terrain base and leave the trees loose but free standing.

Jungle is a tough one. Good luck.

yeah, Ive seen the official GW stuff and I think it's ok but not brilliant. The problem there is that you only get 4 in a pack so really, I'd need to buy quite a few and that would be costly and they'd all look the same!

The fish tank idea is great! Onlineaquariumstore.com has some awesome looking stuff - like alien jungle plants. they're about £3-4 for just one so pricey but well worth getting one or two as neat little features. Way too pricey to fill a battle table with tho! I'll probably call them tomorrow and ask just how big the things are.

The little green tufts on my nicer trees are plastic fish tank ferns.

I love the stuff in the second picture Augustus - a bit beyond my abilities right now maybe but the driftwood is a good idea - I'll have a look into where I can buy plastic fern spikes, too.

Thanks

Yea I see you are in the UK, they have to be somewhere... Let me see...

http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/boston-fern-761593/

Boston Ferns! From Hobby Lobby State side, these are the larger 10 inch ones or so, some of my trees are from the micro line and are only 6 inches I think, you could mail order these and make trees like mine. Or search for Boston Ferns locally, good luck.

Remember these come on a plastic point, but they are actually wire interiors with plastic over them so a single spike can make many trees if you jerk the leaves out with pliers and then make your own bundles.

You can even buy and cannibalize an office/home fern plant and make a bunch of big trees out of it.

Have you considered just growing some plants for your table? I have seen a few that are glorified shrubberys, but they look excellent!

Thanks for the link Augustus - I'll have a look for some UK sites that sell those. i think you've got a pretty good look there so it's definitely worth having a go making them.

Also, i found http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquarium-ornaments/decoration/
They sell some really great aquarium plants and decorative items that I may invest in too

Not sure if they fit your definition of jungle trees (as they are more Savanna trees), but I found these big prepainted trees by Schleich very useful, esp. the LOS blocking weird looking Baobab tree (first one). They are quite big, about 25cm high. And the Baobab tree has just been discontibued, so search ebay fast.

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
