Food for a Giant Fenrisian Wolf

Back in high school I played AD&D, which I drifted away from in college. Until very recently my gaming has been restricted to console games and the occasional PC game. In fact, I'm here today because of WH40K: Dawn of War and its expansions. The PC game led me first to GW's site and to 40K comics and novels, next to lurking on message boards and listening to podcasts like 40K Radio, World's End Radio, and Dice Like Thunder, and finally to reading the rule book and codices.

Throughout this journey I've not been alone. My three sons, now aged ten, nine and six have been with me for much of it. The loved watching me play Dawn of War and started asking me to let them go to GW's website so they could look at the various armies' models. They even decided what army that they each wanted to play someday. Well that for me was the final straw. Model building, painting, and playing with little toy soldiers wasn't some expensive midlife obsession of an old geek looking to reconnect with his lost geek youth. No, this was a cool geek dad's heroic attempt at making quality time with his sons!

So this past X-mas brought my ten year old his Tyranid Battleforce, my nine year old his Ork Battleforce, and even a Space Marine Battleforce for my six year old. (Dad bought a lot of paints and hobby tools, so he'll have to wait a bit before starting an army of his very own.) My wife has even decided she enjoys the modeling aspect of the hobby and has spent several afternoons scraping mold lines off tiny bits of plastic. (She even discovered Dakka independently of me while searching for possible Tyrannid paint schemes and techniques on the internet after I'd fallen asleep one night.)

I'm taking a break from the modeling right now to finally make my introductory post here. All of my hobby knowledge is theoretical, stuff that I've read or heard on podcasts. I live in rural western Montana and don't have a nearby established hobby community to answer my questions. So here I am.

Hello!

I greatly approve of this.

Welcome to the forum! I hope we get to see some of the family's efforts on here at some point.

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.
