I usually just build mech vet lists, but this is something I've been playing with a little bit. The infantry squads advance, the command squads tankshock and flamer objective-holders. Marbo is just there to drop into the enemy backfield.

When I first read this I thought "Oh, green tide, just crappier".

Don't even bother with mounting up your officers, you'll get the tanks popped early on and bad news will ensue.

You need some ranged fire support otherwise, you're going to get cut to ribbons.

Drop the third platoon, add another squad to each blob and them take some Autocannon teams for support.

Dropping Marbo and the 4 Chimeras would be 305 points, which would be two leman russes. That would give some range.

I'd keep Marbo because he's Marbo. Did you consider Straken? He's murderous and casting his bubble of Furious charge/Counter-attack makes guard scary to charge.

I'd say more bodies would be better over the Leman Russes, but that's just my opinion.

I agree that the chimera should go, but the rest is pretty good, actually.

I'd drop the vehicles alltogether in order to pay for better upgrades for your PCSs, and either a unit or two of stormies, or perhaps another CCS, or just more troops.

Played properly, this will destroy pretty much everything. Of course, you're also looking at 1500 point games that take 6 hours

What should a PCS take? I've always assumed that with a BS of 3 giving PCSes good assault weapons was sort of a waste.

not when you have 3 power weapon sergeants and strakken nearby. I am afraid to assault moderately equipped PCS's even with my vanilla marines when playing my buddy that runs that list Counter Attack AND Furious Charge are both scary in blobs. It's pick your poison basically for assault armies you do need more ranged support going up against a shooty army.

I'd go with Melta for the PCS and withStrakens squad, you could afford another CCS with 3 Plasma and a medic for dealing with MCs and Marines.

I agree with a lot of what's been said above - those few chimeras could be got rid of, just advance the command squads on foot, screened by the main infantry force. Consider squeezing in Straken, or some deep-striking stormtroopers (suicide-rushing land raiders is a lot better than waiting for them to come at you!).

What I personally would do in this sort of army, is change one platoon over to fire support, give the squads heavy weapons instead of power weapons, and try to fit in say 1-3 HWS. You are going to need troops to hold your own objective, as well as charge forward, after all.

Second Attempt. My problem with this list is it feels really static and one-trick since there's only one power blob.

1500 Point Foot List:
HQ 1: Foot CCS (250)
Troops 1: Infantry Platoon (495)
Troops 2: Support Platoon (505)

Heavy 2: Basilisk (125)

Foot CCS: 250
Straken counts-as, 3 plasma guns, medipack, 2 bodyguards

Infantry Platoon: 495
PCS with 4 Plasma Guns, Power Weapon, Plasma Pistol (110)
Commissar with Power Weapon (45) attached to squad 1
Priest with Eviscerator (60) attached to squad 1
4 Squads with Meltagun and Power Weapon (70 each)

Alright, I do think there are some things there that could be improved: Plasma guns are too expensive for foot command squads IMO - those units can easily be shot up, and will be! Give them GL or flamers instead. Straken, especially, will want to assault things so rapid-fire weapons are a mistake. The platoon commander will NOT want to assault things, get rid of his power sword.

I think you should squeeze in 2 31-man power blobs, by taking the following steps:
I would take lascannons in the infantry, but not in the HWS - these units are fragile and expensive guns make it worse. Stick with autocannons for the HWS.
If you have 2 power blobs and straken, and a fair few las/autocannon and meltaguns, drop the basilisks down to griffons. Cheap, efficient barrage firepower and if you need to blast marines or vehicles there are other things that can do that.

Drop the priest if you have to, I'm sure he's good but it makes no odds if you don't have the numbers in the first place.

I persist in saying that at this points level, 2 power-blob platoons, straken CCS, fire support built around a heavy weapons platoon is what you should aim for. (you could still have 2 platoons: as well as the PCS and 31-man power blob, put in 20 men and some weapon teams to provide support)

Third time's the charm? I really am comitted to the Basilisks, way too in love with pie plates (and pie, for that matter ) to drop them, especially since I didn't put in any AutoCannon HWS-es. This feels a lot more stable.

1500 Point Foot List:
HQ 1: Foot CCS (235)
Troops 1: Infantry Platoon (350)
Troops 2: Infantry Platoon (350)
Troops 3: Support Platoon (315)
Heavy 1: Basilisk (125)
Heavy 2: Basilisk (125)

Foot CCS:
Straken, Medipack, 2 Grenade Launchers or Flamers (I know putting a flamer on BS 4 is a waste, but the pre-assault flame really seems like a good idea), 2 Bodyguards, Camo Cloaks

Infantry Platoon: (Squads blobbed and moving forward)
PCS
Grenade Launcher or Flamer
3 Squads
3 Power Weapons
3 Meltaguns
Commissar with Power Weapon
Priest with Eviscerator

Support Platoon: (Squads not blobbed and in-cover)
PCS
Grenade Launcher or Flamer
4 Squads
4 LasCannon
