Mrs Stompa has recently acquired a small tyranid army and I was wondering if there are any books around that deal with the tyranid invasion of a world or a campaign against them (as I don't think anyone has or really could write from the tyranid perspective) as I think this would be a good encouragement and provide her with some insight.

I thought this recent codex was lacking in suitable fluff stories like that cool one written from the tau perspective fighting nids or that cool one that used to be on the website about the fall of the imperial world.

Is there anything good out there in book form for a tyranid fan?

I can't think of any off the top of my head that aren't written by C.S. Goto.

There's a few older(pre-300) White Dwarfs that dealt with it, I'll see if I can find them and scan the relevant info for you.

Oh duh, I should have remembered.

The anthology "Fear the Alien" has a pretty good short story about the Tyranids.

The audiodrama "Helion Rain" deals with the Raven Guard fighting in the midst of a Tyranid invasion.

I have no clue what you're referring to Lizar! None!

"The Warriors of Ultramar" by Graham McNeill, is a siege of an imperial city by the nids.

"Accept that Tzeentch has a place for all of us in his grand scheme, and be happy in the part you have to play." "This is Chaos. We don't "ka-frickin'-boom" here."

"Warriors of Ultramar" is also a very crappy book, so...

There's that to keep in mind.

It came from when McNeill was just starting out writing, and you can tell that he's not quite sure what he's doing.

Don't you mean Fear the Alien?

I know there's one called desert raiders, but I could never find it at bookstores, so never read it. Does anyone else know how good it is?

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

"Desert Raiders" has been out of print for awhile. It's getting converted to eBook soon.

And it wasn't that good.

Best one is "Imperial Armour 4: Anphelion Project", the other one is "Warriors of Ultramar". Beside that there is only "Aliens - The Novel" and "Starship Trooper"

Imagine what a Tyranid novel would be like if told from the Tyranids’ point of view!

the Ciaphas Cain series has at least one book about a tyranid invasion (and a short story), and the last Chancers books start in the middle of one.

Isn't the Ciaphas Cain writing basically the Flashman books in 40k and therefore a bit of a comedy?

One of the series is Flashman and another one is Sharpe.

I'm thinking of rewriting Hornblower as an Imperial Navy series, or maybe Miss Marple as an Inquisitor.

Yeah - what annoys me about this is that the Flashman books are very interesting, and the author developed a very unique and amusing 'voice' for the central character. (the Flashman books are presented as the protagonist's secret memoirs, so he is the narrator as in the 40k imitations) The Ciaphas Cain books, I picked up and then threw away in disgust. Every aspect of the writing, down to the narrator's way of speaking and even turns of phrase, was an imitation of the Flashman books. I honestly consider that the lowest form of rip-off. The only difference is that Flashman, while a capable and cunning man capable of decisive action in desperate situations, is a coward, a bully, and a bad man. The author of the 40k version didn't have the nerve to write the character that way, so he's just a hero who speaks in an incongruously deprecating way of his exploits.

YES

Imperial armour 4: Anphelion project is probably the best, but most expensive
