Subject: SoB fluff?

I'm trying to get more info on the background/history of the SoB, specifically the Order of the Ebon Chalice. Can anyone point me to any accurate online sources? I have the WH codex and I'm attempting to get the OOP SoB codex from back in the day, but I'd like to get more info on the ladies, so as to get a better idea of what their differences are. From what I've heard/found, EC Sisters are the blood 'n guts hardcore types, not the snooty, stick-up-their-bums type. IIRC, I think I remember reading a snippet from some BL book that a IG Commisar commented that he saw one EC SoB kill a CSM, then yanked out some of his intestine to tie her hair back. Anyone know if that is accurate, or did I get fooled by anti-fluff? Thanks in advance, DrGrbek

For Sisters fluff, try to track down the old 2nd ed. codex. Lots of great stuff in that. Also, if you can find copies of the graphic novel Daemonifuge (sp?), there's some worthwhile stuff there too...

friend lent it to me.Quite a nice one (except for the whole Eldar part...wtf was that?) but i cant say i remember anything of the name in it.You could always look in the SoB codex, might have something there. And lastly, are you sure it exists though? If happens, might be a custom chapter that grew a little more than out of a room and a tabletop.

Not sure that piece of fluff exists. It seems a bit weird that she'd bother tying her hair back, and is it not written "Thou shalt not use the accessories of the enemy for thine own aesthetic good, even were thou Worth It?" There's a small bit on the Ebon Chalice in a WD from around the time the WH Codex came out.

That link to the malleus malificarum thing is full of pretty terrible history, at least on the front page (as far as I got). At the very least it isn't quite what I'd call "scholarly" (though the author does make a pretty good effort).

Yea, you have to read the disclaimer "Please note that we at the Malleus Maleficarum Online project are not scholars or experts on the subject."
The site is good for the actual transcription though. I wouldn't read too much into the commentary.

Good to see another Ebon Chalice group coming along. As far as info available, the others above are right. The 2nd edition Sisters of Battle Codex is nice and of course you have the Witch Hunters Codex. One US White Dwarf in particular (also mentioned above) has some good info on the different Orders, their founders and how they died but I can't remember the magazine number at the moment. Also, there is a Sisters of Battle group site on Yahoo that has a lot of info as well.

Hmmmm. My sisters are painted as sisters of the Ebon chalice, how ironic. But I have never put much thought into the fluff about them, besides the fact that their based on Terra, and that they were one of the original orders. But about them being obsessed with killing and gust? That sounds a little like chaos talk to me. I say that they are more disciplined then the other orders and more refined, no radical inquisitors, or anything odd like that. But then that?s is just what I've come up with by my self.

Thanks for all the help! It's most appreciated. Now to hunt online for the 2nd Ed. SoB codex. And if anyone can remember what issue WD that was, that'd be helpful. Cheers drgrbek

Posted By drgrbek on 03/05/2006 8:13 PM the 2nd Ed. SoB codex. And if anyone can remember what issue WD that was, that'd be helpful. US White Dwarf 292. Also, the color scheme is a little different from 2nd Edition Codex to Witch Hunters to. In 2nd Edition the weapons were red and the inside of the clothing (sleeves, skirts) was red. Saint Dominica (Alicia Dominica); Patron Saint of the Sisterhood; Founder of Ebon Chalic; Bearer of the Grail of Ages. She is the one who beheaded Vandire. The skull filled chalice is supposed to represent a terrible knowledge from seeing the Emperor, but nothing else known about it. Actually from the descriptions given, the Bloody Rose founder was the more hot tempered one of the bunch.

There's a book coming out by James Swallows, Faith and Fire, about the Sisters. I read the first dozen or so pages from a download on the black library's site and it seemed interesting. I think GW stores are getting it this week.

Just an update, but the BL was selling the book at games-day Atlanta. So far I'm at chapter 5, but there is several good background passages and a lot on Celestine.
