Just wondering to any Dakkanauts who own one, how well do they lock together?

I'm asking as its been a plan of mine for a while to replace my two half boards with a full 6x4 table, until it occured to me at the weekend I have no where to store it.

So I'm thinking I could store 2x2 boards under my table, but they'd need to lock into one another, I have not the time or skill to achieve that myself, so I'm actually considering buying the GW boards.

So yeah, anyone here on Dakka own some, and do you think they'd lock and happily sit on a table made from two half boards slightly smaller than 4x6 (about two inches missing all around.)

They're very sturdy plastic, and wouldn't have any problems staying rigid over a bit of missing table.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like a viable option.

Just know that the clips themselves aren't very sturdy. They're good for holding the tiles against each other, but have pretty much no weight bearing capacity.

The Commander is right. the clips are there to keep the board from sliding apart, not securely locking the whole thing together.

Where my battle buddy and I play, we only have 4 small cafe tables to push together. we spaced the out a bit and the board was hanging a bit over the edges and it still worked. Even with my buddy (who owns the GW board) leaning, it was still good.

I want one for myself, just don't have the money. With some careful painting and flocking, this can be an impressive and sound buy!

Thought that they came with a storage bag for these sets. Other then that, i'd suggest getting something like a cardboard box to put them in. keeping them connected isn't an option if you want to keep the clips. They'd snap off easy trying to do what you want to like you explained.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

If that's the case, I'd build a 4x6 table with integral clips. then the board would be attached to the table, but still retaining the modularity built into the design.

A friend of mine owns the Realm of Battle board. It's nice and looks good if painted (though his isn't painted as he just got back from Afghanistan). The quality is pretty awesome, and while I don't know if I would recommend putting all your weight on it (since it is just plastic), I know you can lean on it without a problem.

I will say this though, I'm used to using wood (normal maps) or tile (city maps) for rolling dice. Rolling on the plastic is kind of weird, since it makes a hollow sound. I don't know. Its not enough to stop me from playing on his board, but it is enough to prevent me from buying one for myself.

Maybe if its painted that wouldn't be a problem.

I have one and I like it a lot. It was a little too expensive but my local shop gave me a discount on a special order for one. It comes with it's own carrying case but the board is 2x2 squares so it's a little unwieldy to carry places. Good for storage though.

I have 2 2.5'x6' folding tables that I got from walmart (this one), I put them together and I have a few inches to lean on in front of the board. And xmas time I use em for my xmas train

It locks together good but as others have said the lock pieces aren't very strong, they're just meant to hold the squares together.

If you play a lot at your house instead of a game shop, it's definitely a worthwhile investment. They're easy (but time consuming) to paint

The board sits nicely on a 3'x5' table, the clips do the job for keeping everything together.

I use mine as a travel board - it packs small and doesn't get damaged in transit.
