What sci-fi sub-genre would Warhammer 40k fall under or does it have its own?
If you had to put Warhammer 40k in its own sub-genre what would you call it?

Grim Dark and Far Future come to mind. Otherwise, its like any other science fiction, other than the fact that seemingly all science fictions fall within the 23rd century (2250) Automatically Appended Next Post: (earliest science fiction I can think of is Battlefield 2142)

Sci-Fantasy is what GW used to call it, if I recall correctly. There's all this future stuff, but this big unknown element amongst all this mysticism.

I would go with Sci-Fantasy... a lot of people love it for its absurdity.

Science Fantasy would probably be the best way to describe the genre 40k falls under.

Sci-Fantasy.
I would also consider Space Opera. That fits the Horus Heresy to a tee

I would say science/space fantasy since it has sci-fi elements (far future, space ships, space marines, &c.) but also fantasy elements (daemons, sorcerers).

I remember a film that was made in like 1960, about 2008. It was all robots, space travel, jet packs and hover cars. lol How wrong they were.

There've been lots of films like that, and you don't even need to go back as far as the 60s. In 1982 Blade Runner portrayed hover cars, androids, and interstellar travel/colonies for 2019 (don't think we've develop all that in the next 8 years!).
Although, I think they can be forgiven, considering that men were landing on the moon in the late 60s. You can see how they'd think that if we went from Sputnik to landing on the moon in just over 10 years, given another 30 hover cars, jet packs, and interstellar travel would be possible.

Yes. It's a kind of space opera, basically.
Overblown themes, reliance on warfare as the key driver of dramatic tension, simplistic character development, and full of technologically inept plot devices.
