There's been much talk about these "Jokaero Weaponsmiths" that appear to be a part of the forthcoming Grey Knights Codex. I'm just wondering what is the fluff/story with these orange space monkeys? I've never heard of them before; I used to be quite heavily into the hobby between 2000 and 2005 and these were never mentioned in White Dwarf (which I subscribed to) or by any of the older gamers I knew. I've been reading Black Libarary novels recently, and while granted I've only read a half-dozen so far, have never seen any mention. So are they a race from the old Rogue Trader days that are being resurrected? Why now? Also, why does the Empire ally themselves with them? This is the first time I've seen an alien as a friendly in an Imperial army. Many thanks.

Yes, They were in Warhammer 40K 1st Edition. And if this rumor is true Jokaero Weaponsmiths - all I can say is YES, just hope they do some type of figure.

Somewhere.

The Jokero get mentioned in the Ciaphas Cain novels. They're a possibly intelligent race subsumed by the Imperium because they're not a danger. All they do is make and enhance weapons, really.

They're mentioned in the current Inquistion Dexes for making digital weapons, since they're better at it than the Mechanicus is.

Basically invented around the pun "digital weapons" (i.e. weapons worn on the finger).
Why the Inquisition is the only Imperial troop to hire Xenos is beyond me though.

As aliens go they are pretty inoffensive. Rogue Trader has a longish entry on them and speculates that they may in fact be descended from genetically modified Earth apes. This could justify their presence in an imperial force, and anyway it used to be the case that aliens were oppressed and barely tolerated, like mutants. There are many species besides the ones featured in the main armies, after all. It describes them as trading, mostly, and traveling via these great big constructs that sound a lot like Kroot Warspheres.

Trading is difficult as they seem to have no language, and they build things chiefly to serve their immediate needs. "Attempts at capturing Jokaero and compelling then to work can have disastrous effects- they build things with which to escape!"

I believe in one of the SW books one of the main characters is unsuccessfully ambushed by (I believe) a Jokaero Deathspider or somesuch?
That's as far as my knowledge of them goes

Yeah there is an assassination attempt.
The Jokaero (according to some members of the Inquisition) not quite sentient as although they are genius' in creating technology they don't really have any other sign of intelligence.

As it hasn't been mentioned yet: the Jokaero, along with the Eldar and the Krork, that went on to become the Orks, were (presumably in the case of the Krorks and Jokaero) created by the Old Ones to combat the Necrons and their C'tan overlords.

As stated by AlmightyWalrus, the Jokaero are at least 60 million years old, perhaps older. They're even more synchronised with technology than the Orks, they can literally repair or build anything from anything, which suggests a warp-connection in the same way that
