One of the things I've always liked most about Army books are the small blurbs or side bars they put in about random things in the Warhammer world. The full on text can sometimes feel a bit dry and get a bit "oh this was the biggest fight anyone had ever seen, even bigger than the last one that we said was the biggest". But the sidebars often give just enough to get a bit of Warhammer world flavor, sometimes some humor, but often have those intriguing "hooks".

I bring this up, because I noticed the new Orc and Goblin book has a bit where a mountain pass collapses on a Dwarf army after a shaman explodes, and the Dwarfs enter the *mountain pass* into their book of grudges, promising to mine it dry and grind it to dust. Quite entertained by that.

Anyone else got favorite little pieces like that?

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

I agree that the little sidebars are great, especially the little timelines (at least, the ones that aren't "zomg this army are the best").

A personal favorite of mine would be the collective fluff about the Bretonnian Peasants. Especially when the peasant invents the trebuchet, and is awarded the hefty sum of 2 copper pieces and a pig, hehehe.

That pig was worth more than he'd ever hope to see in his worthless life!!!

I enjoyed the non Carstein fluff in the VC book. Can't remember any tangent bits though.

Going back to the O&G book, I love the blurb where the orc boss asks the gobbos if they are eating one of their own and they all get indignant . . ."Nah, it's onw of Maggot's lot." Good reading.

I think I got this one:

"Pass me another Itxi grub."

Last words of Lord Ztolcutec, to his chief attendant, the Skink Priest Xhili'Zkuki

Daemons have a couple good ones.

LORD OF CHANGE

The Daemon lied with every breath. It could not help itself but to deceive and dismay, to riddle and ruin. The more we conversed, the closer I drew to one singular ineluctable fact: I would gain no wisdom here. The Daemon's mind was a labyrinth of deceptions. Truth was trammelled at the very heart of that maze, and far beyond my meager reach."

KEEPER OF SECRETS

It granted me all that I desired; but took from me all that I valued. I would give anything to look upon its beauty once again."

This is why I am always tempted to collect O&G.

I don't remember that Snotling one. That's great.

The Ogre book is full of little quotes and stuff that is awesome. Every unit is introduced from a bulls point of view and what their status is in their culture. My favorite though is there is 2 pages from an empire physician/scientist who is doing an autopsy on an Ogre and he's going through all their features: their small brain, their muscle and fat tissue, their larger lungs for mountain living, the cause of death which was a long list of stabs, gun shots and other wounds, and best of all the stomach contents which included about 10 or so different things ranging from bones of various creatures and humanoids and metals, weapons and other materials, some "Da Vinci" esque diagrams and drawings are included, it's awesome.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

That was one of the ones I was going to mention. Quite funny.

One of my personal favorites is the description from the previous O&G book (haven't read the new one yet) about the Doom Diver catapult. Actually, anything Orc/Goblin related is hilarious.

The Ogre Autopsy is brilliant. It's also not just a sidebar, it's a good 2-3 pages long.
