My House?

The one million dollar question:
Do you like pie?
oops, I meant:
Do you prefer swarm or nidzilla?
I like nidzilla cause the Tyranid MC, IMO, is really cool cause you got all these limbs.
I'm too lazy to paint (and too bad at painting) to paint 100+ models in my swarm who look like each other.

You should use sprays.

I did 40 Termagants in a couple of days, plus a Tervigon and several medium sized creatures.

I have a mix. Swarms are good because, if your paintscheme is good, the swarm will look good in terms of pattern. Nidzilla is good for adding that extra effort to your painting.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Swarms of Gaunts and Genestealers with a one or two big bugs! The Emperor's Finest can't stop them. The Waaagh might through or the Hammer. Or I could get my little sister to unleash by Luna Dragons on the Swarm. My space marines don't need a good player to beat xenos (Or at least orks, a novice use them to beat a veteran ork player).

i love a mix. My swarm has around 70 gaunts, 30 g.s & 4 m.c and 6 warrior. All painted in a red and black scheme. Its pretty cool. But gaunts do die in droves to bolter fire!

Thanks. It's simple.

Pale beige on the underneath.
Sahara Yellow on the sides (Montana Gold)
Sand on the top (Montana Gold)
Red Oxide mucous bits.
Pink claws and teeth.
Magic dip with Army Painter Quickshade Softone.
Matt varnish spray.

Very quick to do and gives an organic desert effect, to match my terrain.

The 3 main schemes for Tyranids are pretty easy to paint.

Leviathan can be done with a white basecoat, purple wash, then paint white back over the larger areas of the skin, and purple armour and feathered light purple highlights.

Kraken is even easier. Prime white, paint the skin Bleached Bone and the armour Red Gore. Drench the skin areas in Devlan Mud, paint Bleached Bone over the larger skin areas again, and feather Blood Red highlights on the armour.

I've personally switched from my over complicated scheme to Behemoth which is very simple. Prime black, paint the skin Mechrite Red, then Blood Red, hit with a layer of Devlan Mud, Blood Red on the skin again. Feather Fenris Grey onto the armour and Codex Grey onto the weapons. I finished my test Hormagaunt yesterday in under 2 hours to a satisfactory quality.

These schemes are good because not only are they simple to do quickly, they do have scope for doing more complex work on bigger creatures like doing multi stage feathering highlights on the bone areas.

Hm, My army i think would probably classify as "Nidzilla" since I only field 40 gaunts in a 1500 point army (20 AG/TS Hormies, 20 Devilgaunts) and 1 Tervigon.

However, it isn't a very "Nidzilla" ish army if you ask me. The other units I field are 2 groups of 2 hive guard, a Tyrant with LW/BS and Armoured shell and old adversary, a Trygon Prime, and 6 Raveners.

So, I guess my army would count as a mix of Nidzilla and swarm armies.

I would like to see some builds for extremes on either end of the spectrum, though. A Swarm army list with three Tervigons would be a very interesting list to see.

That's my Tervigon.

If you enlarge the pic you can see a Termagant being spawned.

That's definitely a nice paint scheme. I really like the contrast between the mouth's red and the pale colors of the body. It focuses your attention on the maw of the tyranid... scary.

I think there is some usefulness in Nidzilla armies, it just isnt nearly as good as it used to be.

But if you took a list of 3 Fexes with Scytals/AG/Frag spines, 3 dakkafexes with Devourers and pods, 2 Tervigons, 4 Hive Guard, and just fill the rest with Gaunts, its a somewhat viable 1500 point army. the real downfall to Nidzilla is fexes cost more now and aren't as useful as they used to be. However, since they can be put in squads of three now, they can be devastating with the awesome power of good wound allocation.

I'll have to mathahmmer this list later to see if it would work, right now I don't have a codex in front of me. I really would, however, be careful in saying "All" codexes eat nidzilla for breakfast
