Ok, first off.. I'm juuust getting back into wargaming. I think the last game I played was the day after 3rd edition came out. (About 8 years ago)
Anyway, I've settled on Dark Eldar, but.. I want to convert them all Skaven-ie with heads and tails n' stuff.

To be honest, I'm mostly into the game for the modeling, but on the rare occasion I opt to play a tourney, would i even be able to field such an army?

A new day, a new time zone.

Do you follow the rules in the dark eldar codex? Is it clear what all the models are? (fer ex, no 'That rat ogre over there is a wrack, that rat ogre over there is a talos, and that rat ogre over their is a raider transport).

Then you're fine.

"-Nonsense, the Inquisitor and his retinue are our hounoured guests, of course we should invite them to celebrate Four-armed Emperor-day with us..."

As long as everything is clear as to what it should be, I doubt anyone will have a problem with it. The only issue these sorts of armies have is, if like Bookwrack said, there are confusing conversions. This is seen by a lot of people as being deliberate to get away with cheating.

Make sure models are distinct enough so this doesn't happen, and you should be golden.
