This is something that've been on my mind lately, what's the point of Chaos Gates and such? What I know about Chaos is that it corrupts the material universe and that when someone of great psychic might dies they leave a mark on the immaterium in turn. If say some cult does something really impressive I can see why their club-house would grow spikes and whatnot. However actually constructing a portal or something, is that really necessary for Daemons to enter the world? Granted I've only seen this in games and I've never read a WH40K-book but it would surprise me if there's no mention of a cult constructing a gate or some such thing. I can also see why lesser cults would physically construct altars and shrines with spikes as a tribute to Chaos, or just scare their enemies, but again would they have any function like increase Warp Power? Then again I guess working to make a physical gate is as good proof as anything of commitment to Chaos and it might just be fitting Daemons will come out of the portal.

My take on it is that Chaos Gates are a direct passage to a Daemon World or the like where another gate is situated, much like a wormhole.

It's not necessary to have a Chaos Gate but it makes things a darn site easier having an established stable route you can bring reinforcements over rather than to have to rely on incantations and possessions to bring Daemons over.

If the place is already attuned to the warp because of warp storms or tears in real space then it's also possible that you can bring Daemons over but if the warp storm fades or the tear begins to close you aren't going to bring across more allies and you yourself are going to be stuck possibly.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

Daemons? perhaps not. Summoning the Traitor Legions? I'm sure they help, tones.

Chaos gates are probaly structures built near weak areas in reality were Daemons can find ways to enter reality. Chaos Gates alow the Daemons entry easily into real space while others help summon Chaos Marines from the Eye of Terror or Malestorm.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

I had completely forgot about Warp Drives. They're really indisputable proof that the Warp can be used by structures. Then a Chaos Gate could be a construct like a Warp Drive (maybe there are no Warp Gates because stepping through one would be suicide without some large craft with that Geller Field around it, or Daemonic allies) that the Traitor Legions can use to travel around.

Warp Gates are stable portals into the material world.

they use Psychoreactive materials to hold the gate stable.

they arn't required for deamons to get into the material world, but they are much easier.

posession of a psyker is easier too, but only a more powerful deamon can do this and it is tougher for the deamon to actually manifest this way and takes a longer time.
