Just toying with the idea of using a Mephiston model to represent a DP in my CSM in friendly games. I have Demon Prince models, I just think this would be a fun twist on a use of the model since everyone jokes about him being a DP anyway.

Perhaps a freehand khorne symbol on his chest and removing any BA or Loyalist insignias, give him a trophy rack from the Chaos Terminator box, maybe even a set of wings?

Your thoughts? ie, good idea, hokey, wouldn't let me field him like that, etc.

Uh I'm going to say if you put him down, tiny infantry dude and all, and claim him as a 10ft demon prince you would have to elaborate with me where he would get cover saves and where he wouldn't as simply one could mistake just a goofy idea for a guy trying to get a little more than he should with the rules and 'counts as'

Yeah, I'd have to say no, particularly as you actually have DP models. One of the biggest complaints about Mephiston is his DP stats on a regular model size.
Sorry man, but I'm a no.

So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

tbh I never considered the possibility of exploiting his smaller size for cover saves, etc. I imagine I'd have to stick him on an elevated base and give him wings to make him larger if it came down to a conversion project.

Interesting. I would be more adverse to someone trying to field a counts as because they don't have the model than to replacing the model for fun (ie, using a deck of cards as a rhino because the player doesn't have a rhino is bad, but not as bad if he has rhinos and is just having fun), but I see your point.

You could just state at the start of a game that he never gets a cover save and be very liberal with line of sight, though that would screw you over a bit.

Thought this was the other way around. Using a daemon prince model to counts-as Mephiston makes a lot more sense. I wouldn't let you do this, as a Daemon Prince is supposed to be monstrous creature sized, and that would really dick me over with Mephiston's comparatively diminutive size.

imo if you were to build a large base equivalent to what would be needed for a standard DP and elevate him upon cliffs or something, then used very large wings (maybe even dp wings giving the sense that mephiston is actually transforming into a full sized monsterous creature!) it would be ok to use. These shouldn't be a cover save issue if you can show at the start of the game that the proportions on this mephiston/dp conversion are comparable to a dp you own. This should be more than adequate for home games, for "fun" (this is a game isn't it?, and for clubs maybe. Probably wouldn't work in a tourney setting though. I say go for it!

Why not just use the DP models that you have?

One of the main problems most people have with Mephiston is his diminutive size in relation to his stats. Taking advantage of this 'for fun' just doesn't cut it I'm afraid, as I doubt your opponent would have a lot of fun not being able to see/shoot an MC that is the size of a normal infantry model.

If you wanted to field a Daemon Prince as a counts-as Mephiston however I'd be all for it.

Why would you want to use Mephiston's model for any reason aside from LOS dickery? It's incredibly static and has some funky proportions going on due to its age. Just use a Daemon Prince.

To the former: see above. I don't need to win that bad. It's not like my demon princes aren't behind vehicles all the time anyway. Just seemed like a fun idea.

To the latter: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like old models =)

I like the model. I think he'd make a great Chaos sorcerer.

I'd be cool with you using an elevated base and large wings to represent him as a DP. Anything less would be a iffy.

Mephiston doesn't need to 'count as' a daemon prince He is one already

I'd honestly just use an actual Daemon Prince, to save arguments.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

As long as you make him take up approximately the same space for LOS as a daemon prince you should be fine. Use the 40mm base too.
