I was wondering if Codex Daemonhunters is now a 'dead' codex?

I still play my Sisters of Battle from time to time and wanted to know if my 'borrowed' Daemonhunters Inquisitor Lord was a dead issue right now?

I mean it was pretty obvious when Orks replaced Codex Orks and when Tau Empire replaced Codex Tau, but I was curious what the opinion was about the DH 'dex.

Fire claws innocents without number
As charred cinders replace green life
Death takes good and evil to their slumber
And guilt stabs into me with its knife

For Tournaments and the like, most likely, yes. Codex: Grey Knights will most likely be seen as the replacement for Daemon Hunters.

For casual games, it's really up to you and your opponents. There is nothing that specifically says you have to retire old codexes... it's just the normal convention.

Having said that, it's not something that I would be springing on an opponent unannounced.

While it's not as long-dead as Codex: Assassins or Codex: Eye of Terror and the like, the fact that it's no longer in production nor available from the website places it in the same boat.

But as Insaniak said, there's nothing stopping you and your mates from allowing it in friendly games. Just don't expect tournament organisers or random pick-up opponents to be cool with it.

Reminds me of the guy who tried to claim that he could still use his 3rd Ed. Tau codex because the replacement 4th ed codex was for an entirely different "Tau Empire" army.

You can get away with what your opponent lets you, but the common consensus is that Codex: Grey Knights is a straight replacement for Daemonhunters.

Probably work

I don't see why most people would have a problem with it. Ultimately, it's your funeral.

Unless you play Guard and just want some old-style Mystics; in which case, it's the (deep striking) enemy's funeral.

I don't know. Maybe I've just been lucky, maybe I don't play against enough Daemon/BA players, but that gimmick doesn't ever seem to be nearly as devastating as it could be.

It would be a hard counter to VV trying to pull off Heroic Intervention though... I guess.

At any rate, is Catachans still legal? Is there anything saying it's not? How do we know that by intention Blood Angels wasn't intended to invalidate all previous Space Marine codexes? I mean, they DO reference both Assault AND Tactical squads, and their codex certainly seems like an upgrade to the vanilla codex.

They did remove the FAQ for Daemonhunters.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

GW rarely "invalidate" codexes
However, tournaments stop letting you use the codex, fewer people have access as you cannot buy them anymore, and so you end up with fewer and fewer people playing them.

You can use whatever people you play against allow.

I wouldn't plan on using DH outside of a few niche areas.
