Can you get us started by selecting an army (between the good or evil) and what you may want to field initially?

Yeah sorry i have been very vague i like modor because of the necromancer but i dislike orcs and since im playing angmar the low courage will make it difficult. I do like the fallen realms mainly easterlings on the good side elves or a gondor although evil is preferable.

Thanks for the reply btw im new to WotR and my local gw store manager is running a tournament

armies so far

angmar spirit host or isengard with massed uruk hai

goblin horde with stone giants

dwarves with the vault wardens (some sort of high courage varient sorry if names wrong im not completly sure)

thanks for help in advance

Well I play (soon) Dwarves, so let's get you started with my list.

If you buy three boxes of Dwarf Warriors and Three Boxes of dwarf Rangers (plastics and very cheap for GW product) you can do this:

War of the Rings
Dwarf Army List:
Warriors w/ Shields, Dwarf Captain, 3 companies: 170 points
Rangers w/two handed weapons, Ranger Captain, 3 companies: 170 points
Warriors w/Bows, Dwarf Captain, 3 companies: 155 points
Warrior w/two handed weapons, Gimli, 3 companies: 295 points
Gwaihir the Eagle 200 points
Total: about 990 points.

Instead of the Giant Eagle (I love flying around and smacking stuff) you can put in 200 points worth of vault wardens. I'm waiting on them and hoping for plastic models sometime this year or next.
Gimli is an easy hero model to get -- even stores like Miniature market and the warstore carrry him. Plus, he can be tossed into the enemy to inflict wound then he runs back to his friends! Dwarf tossing -- how can you not love it?

can't help you with the other armies, I'm too much of a noob. pick up the rule book, though. it is crystal clear and everything is all in one shot.

The Necromancer was also my first LOTR model, it is just so cool.

The good news is that in WOTR you can ally factions. The bad news is that at 1000 points, you can only take 250 points of allies. Thus, if you want to use the Necromancer then you must use Mordor as your main force.

Unfortunately I have some more bad news, the Necromancer probably won't do so well in a tournament. This being said here is a list.

Necromancer
Khamul the Easterling
Four companies of Moranon Orcs with Shields
Three companies of Moranon Orcs with Shields
Three companies of Moranon Orcs with Shields
Three companies of Moranon Orcs with Shields
Three companies of Moranon Orcs with Shields
Three companies of Mordor Orcs
Three companies of Mordor Orcs
Three companies of Warg Riders with Shields

I know the list has lots of models, but that is what makes WOTR tick. All of the units that I selected are plastic, so that helps a bit.

Another route to take would be to go with The Necromancer, two Winged Nazgul, and two units of four companies of Warg Riders with Shields. Just make sure that you stay out of combat.

Currently i have the necromancer the dwimmerlaik but ive got the ok to use him as any
and i also have 3 companies of morannon orcs i was thinking of taking castelleans of dol guldor since they would fit the necromancer theme

Castellans are great models. I got some for LOTR, but do not have enough to use in WOTR. They are two models per blister thus a single company would cost about the same amount six companies of orcs.

The Dwimmerlaik is one of the better Ringwraiths. His ability to make enemy heroes use more might is very useful.

Another type of list you could run in the tournament is a magic heavy one. Take three Ringwraiths. I recommend that one of these is Khamul. Also run the Necromancer. Fill the rest of your points with Morannon Orcs (13 companies). Use Pall of Night, and Tranfix to prevent the opponent from getting into combat. Blast them with magic, and pick your fights.
