hi, Im new to warhammer 40k and I decided to go with the army, orks and i need help making an army. I get the basic rules of warhammer and some stuff but not much. So i need a 1500 point army to play 40k at the place i go to. I started out with the black reach so i have 5 nobz and the warboss. I also got the battleforce so i guess thats a good starting point.
Im thinking of having a the black reach warboss and a mek with kff for HQ
then lots of boyz with trukks and nobs with pk and bp
and deftkoptas and warbikers but thats all i have so far.
10 lootas. Also how do i turn lootas into meks and what does it do.
Please help i know i dont have much of an army started yet
Thanks

Roight ho! Da Kaptin is 'ere to lend you an 'and be friend.
Warboss- What does the AOBR warboss actually have? I dont know it off by heart.
Anyhow, i would suggest slapping him in a unit of eavy armoured Nobz, and maybye them in a Battlewagon or a looted wagon, if you dont want a boomgun. (a BIG cannon)
The best part of that kombo, is that the Nobz can be a troops choice if the Warboss is their Hq, so you can use them to capture the enemy objective in objective games.
The lootas can be used to hold your own as well. They are a good unit, if unreliable. Meks are an upgrade for the Lootaz, and can be given Kustom mega blastas, which are great.
If you want me to write you a list up, i will.
PM me if you do.

Meks are a free upgrade for a small number of Lootas, but usually its more worth having the extra loota seeing as a hit from a loota can blow up all but the hardest tanks!!
If you have the trukks, then something like 4 trukks full of boys, with koptas, bikes and maybe a wagon for the Warboss, Nobz and Mek... Or attach the mek or warboss to one of the boys mobs...
Alternatively go for a huge number of foot troops, and just walk up as fast as poss.... you'll get over twice the number of troops, but it'll be slower going, so more will die...
best advice is to have a trawl through the posts on here, and learn what you can from other more experienced players!!
Goo luck!! Automatically Appended Next Post: AOBR warboss has a PK and a TL shoota..
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I'd recommend getting the orks codex, or finding a cheap download for it....
It'll help you a lot!!

How competitive do you want the army to be? Would you rather have an effective winning force and strategy or a more fluff based army? If you want an effective, tournament ready force, your best bet is to look at some of the ork lists posted on the site. Many of them are quite effective on the table, although they aren't as 'fluffy' as some other lists might be. One example of an effective Ork list is the kan wall. Pretty much its a couple KFF big meks, lootas, 3x3 kans (usually I find rokkits are best) a suicide deffkopta or two, and at least 3 squads of boyz, each having a nob with PK and BP. I find its an effective list, has fluff behind it, and is pretty forgiving as far as learning to play. On the other hand if you want an army purely based on fluff, then you might lose (a lot, trust me, I know ) but you can actually enjoy losing, and even make up a back story as to why you lost. Its all really up to you on what style of gamer you want to be. At any rate, welcome to the Orks!

Another thing to keep in mind is that you don't NEED 1500 points.
There is no rule that you MUST start at 1500 points.
I bet you if you asked, someone would be more than willing to play you at 1000 or even 500 points.
Your current model collection would do very well at either of those point levels.

first off welcome to the green side
there's alot of ways to play orks as orkoy said, i'd suggest proxyign a few units and list ideas in small games to see what you want before hand. for example the kan wall is a solid tournament strategy and at least imo one of the most boring ways to play.
battlewagon bash whish is another viable strategy i find very fun 19 boys w/ 1 nob in a battlewagon, several bw of thei 2 groups have 18 boys and a nob w/ pk and bp to make room for the big mek with kff to help them get there... i presonally prefer fluff list though, i win about 30% of the time probably tie 40% and lose 30% but alot of fun playing... and people remember playing my oddball lists as they don't know whats gonna happen next
