This week Sen. John Kyl exercized his Senatorial privilege to alter the Congressional Record (which is supposed to be used to clarify or expand one's remarks), omitting his bald-faced lie on the floor of the Senate, and pretending that it never happened.

Thank you, Senator, for giving us another Orwellian moment this week to complement the President's backwards-talk about raising taxes. You should be (and I hope you are) ashamed of yourself. But I rather doubt it. Ducking responsibility and trying to hide your lies from history is giving us reason to respect you even less.

He should've manned up and admitted what he said on the floor of the Senate and been done with this mess.

I'm not sure why he would do this. In days past removing something from Senatorial records might have a material effect on the dissemination of knowledge, but now we have the internet; which means he's just making himself look worse.

I hope this ends up in the history books.

There's no good or rational reason. It's something he could only be doing out of ignorance, and a baseline instinct to deceive and try to conceal evidence.
