Hello and thank you.

Well for a while ive been planning on creating a new army, i want a marine force, well kind of anyway and i'm stuck between making my own Space Marine force (Rogue but not chaos of course) or a Thousend Sons force (i just love the whole eygption mummy pskyer theme).

My marine force would be simply enough to do, being two companies with rhinos and assult troops but it seems pretty standard, but the thousend sons... well! I have always wanted a thousend sons army dispite it being chaos (i generally dislike chaos and there counterpart daemons) i really would love a TS force, but for as far as i can tell its limited with the modles you can get, i have only seen troops, daemons and HQ's, while i admit i love the troops, the rest of the army choices seem lacking with pretty much any other modles.

welcome any advice at this point, i must point out that i am not keen on the daemons themselves at all (apart from the lord of change him self), fyi, im no good at painting flesh or mutations.

any advice or suggestions?

A few.
Get some third party helmets and convert your own Thousand Sons.
Look at some lists for competetive/fluffy Thousand Sons lists IIRC you can build a semi-competetive fluffy TS list.
Get the Chaos Space Marine Codex (if you don't have it already)

If you are tempted to do Space Marines then grab that codex and have a look.

Also please improve your grammar and spelling...
It's kind of hard to understand you otherwise.

Don't feel bad Clumpski! Just use the spellcheck!
Anyways, back to topic....I reckon you should go preheresy 1k sons. The colour scheme is sooooo nice. Plus it means that you avoid the daemon problem altogether, tis a win win my old mukka!

Wouldn't you just use the space marine codex for a "pre-heresy" force? and rather than use sargents use psykers instead?

You could do that for sure mate. Would be very fluffy, thou quite expensive pts wise to bring them in line with their peers.
But the modeling opportunities would be boundless..... Come to think of it, I should have done that with my RTB01's before I painted them as Blood Lancer's! Curses!

True, but i must admit i really like the post heresy modles, ive seen some good converted terminators;

but i wouldnt know how to start converting them, honestly i think ive decided to go with a post heresy force, just because i love the colourations

havocs should be easily enough converted with slapping a TS head on top, but loin cloth might not be so easy o.o (ill have to double check if TS can have havocs, but i think its only slanessh that cant right? not quite sure)

but still im not very good at conversions, so any help on that part?

Ok, I'm pretty sure that 1k sons can have havocs. So no worries on that point. As to the loin cloth's, you could try and source some 3rd party ones or use Chaos Marauder ones? I'm not entirely sure tbh.

You could use the vanilla CSM mini's and just put forgeworld 1k sons iconography on them. That would be perfectly acceptable I think. Also you can buy 1k sons mini's too.... So a few options there for you.

Hope this helps?

Peace....

TS could have havocs.

The Thousand Sons box comes with basic marines + thousand sons metal bits (head, shoulder pads, tabard). Making "havocs" would be easy as all you would have to substitute would be arms (for missile launchers). Not sure if you can get plastic parts for other weapons you might want to use.

Dark angels veterans make great Chosen.

You can add a Thousand Sons head to the standard Chaos Terminator with just a few snips.

Well then Thousand Sons are a good choice, little flesh or mutations.

A good fluffy TS army is relatively easy to make:

Rubic Marines - base troop you can buy straight off
Chosen sorcerers - relatively easy to convert from SM terminators with a head swap and a few lion cloths (remember chosen won't be runic marines as why would tzeentch give favours to a bag of dust)
Sorcerers - can be bought striaght off
Deamon prince - using the old metal deamon prince and some lord of change parts you can make some epic looking deamon princes, just don't go too Eyqptian.
possessed - not very thousand sons, they don't like mutations, so you could model they as a sorcerer's experiment with captured loyalists
oblitorators - again making it a sorcerer's experiment.
havoks - not a fan but easy to convert

Relictors: 1500pts

its safe to say that relictors are the greatest army a man , nay human can own.

I'm cancelling you out of shame like my subscription to White Dwarf. - Mark Corrigan: Peep Show

Rubic Marines would be self explanatory

Chosen

possessed - not very thousand sons, they don't like mutations, so you could model they as a sorcerer's experiment with captured loyalists

Well i love this idea o.o and i have about 16 spare space wolves bodies stashed away in my bits boxes ready to be made up, so i could mix them, with... say a box of possessed and using the "sorcerers experiments" line of thinking its leads me to the phrase "poetic justice" and adding small model chains around its limbs and chest dangling [i](or even comming out of fleshy [green stuff] mutations?) off still keeps with the theme that the've been experimented with! one huched over wings sprouting etc etc

i dont think ive actually seen the metal daemon prince well not that i can remember

oblitoroators might be more difficult to pull off to i might just stick with termies

and thank you ill do a bit more research into my choices
