So I was playing with a friend and we disagreed on how my diversified Nobz unit worked. I am not sure about this, so I just wanted to know who was correct.

My interpretation is that if I have 6 Nobz and a Painboy, each with different wargear, and the unit takes 7 wounds I can (have to?) put one wound on each Nob and one on the Painboy and they then get their individual saves and FNP rolls. Is this correct?
My friend thought that I needed to put 2 each on three individual Nobz (or the Painboy) and then 1 wound on another model. They then get saves and FNP as usual. Is this correct?

If your entire unit is equipped differently, you can allocate wounds as you said, this is in-fact how most people play nobs.

Thank you for the quick answer. Could I, if I wanted to, put 2 wounds on one Nob and 1 wound on another?

No. You must put a wound on each wound group before doubling up. The point of the diversification is to create more wound groups. In the case of your 7 nobs, it would take 8 wounds before 2 could go on a single wound group. This is from a single unit's shots/Initiative round.

Allright, so I had understood it right =) Thanks for the clarification!

to make the process clearer (as the above poster has the right answer, for the wrong reason!)

1) You allocate a wounding-hit (just to make it clear what we're talking about) to every model in the unit. Once each model has a wound, you then allocate another wound to each model, and repeat until all wounding-hits are allocated

2) You then group models, and the wounding-hits assigned to them, into groups of like models - i.e. identical in gaming terms. This gives you 7 groups of 1 model with 1 wound in each group

3) You then take saves on models within the wound group - now, here as you have 7 unique nobs, with 1 wound assigned to each, each nob can take exactly ONE wound - but it cannot take anymore wounds than that, as you are only able to take wounds within your wound group

If you have 7 identical nobs you end up with 7 wounds assigned to 7 models evenly, but at stage 2 when you group them, you would have 7 wounds and 1 group - and any failed saves would have to remove wounded models where possible. If you fail all 7 saves 3 nobs would die, and one would be wounded.
