Subject: For Love of the Empire - A Megabattle Army Buildng Blog (Finished!)

Hey everyone! I figured since I had something painted now, it would be a good idea to post this on the forum. I've been keeping a blog of this army for a bit. Rather than retype everything I am just going to quote what I said in past posts, as it is rather lengthy.
2500 points of Empire before Heros!
I figured I would start this blog set with a bold statement. I have recently decided to make an Empire army. I have always wanted one, and I found some great excuses:
1. I love my Adepticon sort of blogging too much to only do it once a year.
2. I figured if I do the army as a combined arms sort of force with lots of different states, I can break the painting up into manageable chunks that I can do in my spare time, instead of having to do it during work time like my Adepticon armies (that I always wait till last minute to do)
3. I love Empire. I love the quasi historical feel. I like the huge, and numerous units. I like the artillery. I love how you really have no hope unless you are at a tactical advantage.
4. I have a friend making an Empire army.
5. Said friend is moving away in the summer, and we have pledged to both finish our armies by the time he leaves, and have one mega narrative battle against the group to send him away right.
Sounds like fun! (At least until I go to assemble 200 state troops! )
The game will be based around Helmgart in Axe Bite Pass. I thought it over and all of these places coming together is a bit silly, especially when you consider the politics involved (which I didnt know much of until I read the Heraldry book). So my army will be (almost) 100% Reikland, with each unit coming from a different city.
The current list:
War Altar
2 Warrior Priests
3 Engineers
2 Wizards
50 Halberdiers - Altdorf Company of Honor
50 Halberdiers - Reikland
35 Swordsmen - Bogenhafen
35 Swordsmen - Nuln - Grendels Defenders
20 Crossbowmen - Defenders of Helmgart
30 Greatswords - Carroburg
3 Cannons - Nuln
3 Mortars - Nuln
2 Helblasters - Nuln
Here is a map!
Here's a pic from a couple weeks ago when half of it was assembled.
And some pics from today of finished items, starting with Nuln:
The Bogenhafen unit, famous for their wine:
That's all for now. I'll post more as I finish.
Thanks for reading!

Y' know, I don't care too much for WHFB, but a GMM blog is a GMM blog. Subscribed!
Lovely looking stuff as ever man, particularly liking the purple on the Bogenhafen unit and the burnished gold on the great cannons. Boodiful.
Particularly looking forward to the Halberdiers, would've loved for their to be some Knights though...

Thank you!
No knights was half me being silly and taking as many infantry as possible (without hurting the list, obviously 3000 points of pure infantry wouldnt work) and half my friend has that covered. His 3000 points has a knight unit. We also have another player with 1500 (fully painted from Bogenhafen by the way!) that is all mounted as a flanking force.
So 7500 points total per side. The other side is two orc players
One guy is bringing 2 units of 18 horde formation trolls!

That looks great, dude, keep it up! 200 IG models is driving me nuts, I can't imagine painting up a fantasy army.

Jordan - Thats one reason each unit is a different color. Makes it easier to do in my spare time on top of my customer projects.

Oh very nice I love the work you have done so far, painting each unit different really helps to keep the painting going. I plan to start an Empire army after I've painted up a playable force for 40k, I'll be watching this thread a lot.

Love the Vintners. The banners are brilliant. I'm impressed by how quick your turning these out.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Stunning work. I know it seems like a funny detail to pick on is a favourite, but I love the use of wreaths on the halberdiers' banner. Just one example of the exquisite detail. Extraordinary.

Agree with Just Dave, "Fantastic job as ever, GMM." I'm all for the fluff tie-ins and heraldry used. I'm glad you got it all finished in time. It looks amazing. I really like the contrast of the wizards' robes against the predominant reds in the army. Awesome stuff, GMM!
