Hi there, I'm Killamop (obviously )
Some of you may have spotted me in some of the 40k forums, and to put it simply. I want to play Fantasy.
I've already decided on my army, but what I want to know is what I should get?
I've gone for Dwarves and my only criteria is to limit the spellcasters, that ain't my style
Thank you very much in advance, unless you don't reply. In which case you suck

I too am a WHFB noob, but I'm pretty sure dwarves don't have magic.

Well I'm glad I chose dwarves then.
Like I just picked it, I haven't looked at rules of whatever yet

Dwarfs (not Dwarves) are pretty much THE anti-magic race in fantasy. You can shut down even some of the most powerful magic races.

A bit of the problems are, they are an oldish army book, some of their models are still metal, and I think they have a few less options overall.

If you like TF2 Heavy, Dwarfs and/or Ogres are a good choice. A set of Leadbelchers are basically a Heavy with a Minigun

Alright then, what suggestion would you make for an army? I basically want a complete opposite to Ork to mix it up a bit..
so small elite and fun to paint please

Well, both dwarves and ogres are small, elite and fun to paint

Dwarfs focus on high toughness and lots of armour. Ogres focus on having lots o' wounds.

I would say Dwarfs are a good deal more forgiving, if that helps.

Dwarfs DEFINITELY are a good choice if you hate spellcasters. The most spellcaster-ish guy you can get is a Runepriest, which helps dispell magic and can give upgrades to various units, etc. He also can take the Anvil of Doom which is KINDA like magic, but works in the shooting phase and I believe can shoot lightning.

Ogres are definitely not magic heavy, and are really tough, elite and brutal. Their "mage" is actually a chef who eats rocks and troll guts and (assuming his gut doesn't explode) can buff your Ogres to scary levels (and they already WERE scary...)

Dwarfs: Lots of Cannons, more models than Ogres but still elite. Small actual model size (they ARE dwarfs...) with lots of armor and beards. Heavy on the shooting, hard as hell to break in combat.

Ogres: Big models, lots of wound per model (I believe each Ogre is like, 3 wounds a piece?), some artillery, the Gut Magic I stated above. But they do have an old book, which is still effective (due to 8th edition changes in the use of Monstrous Infantry, which the Ogres are) but lacks a decent amount of options. And yes, Ogres do have a unit that is basically the Heavy from TF2. XD

Also, both Battalions are good deals, but the Ogres is better point wise as they are MUCH more expensive point wise. (Honestly, buy a battalion, convert one or two of the Ogres to characters and you have a 1000 point army. )

Hope that helps! Good luck!

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

So Ogres are cheap on my wallet and they look like acharacter from my favourite FPS? I'm sold. I'm gonna grab one next next pay day

You would always paint up your leadbelchers like the the heavy.

I was also thinking of dwarfs and capitalizing on the maelstrom sale to get some since the battalion is almost half off. I wasn't sure what would be good to get with the battalion (or two, though that'll be a bit expensive)? Though I am considering just buying one or two SW things and saving the money for starting Warmachine/Hordes.
