Hey All,

A bit of background. I spent about 7 years as a make-up FX artist which means I have a lot of experience in mold making techniques.

I sat down yesterday with the idea of re-casting some resin figures so I could use them as pilots, and drivers. The problem however is that the models I would like to made molds of don't seem to be made with a conventional 2 Part mold. You can see seam lines up the legs and ending at the waist, but there are no seam lines from about the waist up (at least not that I can see).

There is definitely a two part mold going on, but it appears as though the top of the figures are a one part mold. Needless to say I am super confused. Anyone have any insight as to how these might have been done?

Thanks,

CLM

Ex nihilo

Butterflyed slicone mold.
The silicone used in the molds could be softer than the plastic/resin, allowing them to peel back part the mold and remove the plastic frame within.

Recasting GW molds is bad though and if you intend to do that you should feel bad.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This would allow the deeper part of the mold ("Top") to be static in the mold and the more shallow back, or "bottom" of the mold to be the part that is peeled off before working the more substantial other part out of its moorings in the silicone.

By George, I think he's got it.

Sounds like it to me. There are some very flexible silicon rtv rubbers out there for this purpose.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
