This may look like a simple little model, but it's packed with texture options and you should get a lot of use out of it. The Cabin has a fully-textured interior and a lift-off roof for easy access. Scores of distinct looks are possible by mixing and matching the textures in the multi-layered PDFs. And if you don't want to mess about with the PDF layers, this kit comes with two prepared looks that are easy to print out right away.

Thanks for checking it out!

Now that is perfect for skirmish level games like Mordheim. Nothing like some room to room fighting.

Whats my game?

Here are some of the projects I'm working on now. These are my test models that I create to make sure the geometry is correct. Textures come later.

No doubt!

Loving that "inventor's house", can't wait to see it all 'textured' up!

I just spent a week assembling a ton of your buildings Dave, including a couple of boats. I love the Chapel build, it took me 5 hours to complete, no Silhouette HD, but it was a very fun build.

The new stuff looks amazing as usual! Keep 'em coming!

Just bought the Cabin. Guess what I will be doing today

Each set that comes out continues to improve on the work.

Great Job Dave! Love the stuff, use it regularly now.

I just finished the Cabin build, very slick indeed! I will be very surprised if it doesn't become one of your top sellers, Dave. It is a quick and easy build, and possibly the most useful building for war gaming in your line-up, not taking away from any of your other models, which is all amazing stuff. Now all you need to do is redesign your entire line for removable sections lol.

Here's the latest of my ruins models, featuring some of my best textures to date. It's very easy to build and has lots of possible looks.

And be sure to grab your FREE copy of this cool little model from Thomas Weaver (AKA Tommygun) and Dave Graffam (AKA me). Tommygun's awesome geometry combined with my textures give you something fun and unique to add to your fantasy and steampunk games. The Observatory is designed to work perfectly as an add-on to my upcoming Inventor's House model, so if you're planning to pick that one up, this is a great way to get started on it.

great looking stuff as usual.

Do you print them out on normal paper and then glue onto cardstock? or can you print onto photo paper and it will be sturdy enough?

Sturdy enough just with photo paper. You can use paper as light as 80 lb., but I recommend the heavier 110 lb. (199gsm). My bigger models have optional support pieces you can put inside to reinforce them, but either way they're pretty sturdy once they're fully assembled.

The patterns really allow you to get as crafty as you want. Some people (like me) are happy just to build them on 80 lb. cardstock, no extra steps to finish them. Some folks attach them to foamboard, or add external 3D features, finish them with matte spray. I've seen all sorts of conversions that make me wonder why they didn't just start with a plastic model! Some people print on plain paper and then spray-glue to another sheet of heavy paper. Some people print onto full-sheet sticky labels, and then put the labels on foamcore or other heavy stuff. Some people use chipboard as backing. One dude used my textures as a pattern for a Rubik's Cube.

I have a paper modeler's guide coming out soon that will describe some of the more advanced techniques.

I can't wait for this!

Your latest release is, of course, amazing, and that PDF instruction guide is much appreciated too - overall, very impressive as always!

Really love the Inventor's House Dave and the new town house with the corner extension is looking ace too.

I have downloaded one of the freebies and was impressed with the textures

Have so many projects on the go but hope one day to play around with the possibilities.
Am afraid I will fall into the add loads of 3D layers school!

Overall very impressed with the buildings

I've been checking your stuff out for awhile now, and they all look good. If I wasn't saving up for the vacation right now I'm sure i'd have bought a lot... stupid life getting in the way of gaming...
But I'm loving that inventors house, and your ruins look excellant.

Really nice, your work is always improving.

I think you're at the point now where your .pdfs are superior artistically to the stuff that WWG produces.

Their stuff tends to look more obviously "we did this in photoshop, look at the crazy filters we used to make the lighting glow effects", whereas I think your work is much more subtle and realistic, focusing more on desaturated natural colours and hiding the "this was digitally painted" effect rather than amplifying it.

Have you considered also selling digital renders of your 3d models on online stock sites? Places like http://3docean.net/ and others, there's quite a few of them out there. If you converted your portfolio for sale on that site you would basically be the single biggest content creator on that entire website. Sets of buildings could easily fetch $1000+ for single-use commercial license.

It could be a good extra source of income, and I think your buildings would look great in video games.. not many 3d artists put as much detail into their renders as these, and the fact that the models are already based on simple polygons would make them very easy to use in a 3d game.

hmm.. I think I like that sticky label idea I'm just worried if I use really thick paper it'll just jam up my cheapy printer. There's a couple of your buildings I've been looking at. I tried out one of your free samples and it was great. Do they all come with wood panneling patterns for the walls? I'm going to be using them for a wild west setting and the wood building in the free sample seemed to fit pretty good.

Very good, "paper" scenery has really come on a bit. Great stuff.

That's exactly what I try to do. You can definitely over-use some of those filters and other "cheats" like drop shadows, glows and beveling. And my rule about Photoshop filters: If you can tell it's a Photoshop filter, don't use it -- or keep tweaking it until you can't tell which filter was used.

scarletsquig wrote:Have you considered also selling digital renders of your 3d models on online stock sites?

That's a good idea. It'd be a big shift in the way I operate, since I currently design everything in 2D. I have some basic experience with 3D modeling programs, and have designed skins for digital 3D models, so it's not out of the question.

Necros wrote:Do they all come with wood panneling patterns for the walls? I'm going to be using them for a wild west setting and the wood building in the free sample seemed to fit pretty good.

Many do, but not all. The texture options are (usually) listed in the product descriptions. Hope that helps.
