Hello, and thanks Dakka members,
I have a few questions about playing my SM army, and as I am new I would love some help with the rules as I don't get very many games in...

1: Bolt pistols: do all the members of my tactical squads have this in addition to their bolters/hvy/spl weapons? IE... opponent is at approx 7" from unit, you know that because they failed the charge last turn by about an inch... can my 10 man ML/Flamer squad advance, take 9 pistol shots and a flamer shot, then charge? or do I just get the pistol on the Sgt.? or maybe just not the special and heavy weapons models... ?

2: "And they shall know no fear" when I fall back, the next turn the unit regroups, then what, what can I do? not do?

3: Combat tactics: if I take a special character that replaces combat tactics, I am taking another rule in exchange for the ability to fallback when I want to break away from CC? I could see a few instances where you'd wanna break combat. but overall, I think I'd take fleet or something instead... if I take shrike, I would have fleet instead of this rule correct?

4: Combat squads, once separated they act completely as if they were 2 separate troop/elite units correct? they only act as one as far as the FOC is concerned? I can see advantages and disadvantages to this... like 4 groups of termies and another elite on the table, with only 3 slots...

5: Land Raider Crusader: what exactly can my LRC with MM do? as far as moving, how far and what can it still shoot? it has the addl. MM. also, what can the terminators do if they get out and the LRC has moved/not moved... they are Tactical Termies

6: Lysander??? and Shrike ??? unsure about stubborn, and I want shrike and think that Fleet would be handy... I'd still get bolter drill for my Tac.Termies right? I think they could use that... And my army could use Shrike and an assault sqd. of 5 for some harrassment... and fleet would be nice for the whole army... would I still have fleet after Shrike and the Suicide sqd. die.? I know that #6 is more than 1 Q.....

7: Legion of the Damned squad???? I like the them, colors, fluff etc... but not the rules... If modeled with appropriate wargear, could they be used as a regular Tac. Sqd. in a rhino? sing all the regular Tactical Squad rules and such... just basically painted like LotD.....? would that be a problem in tournaments? I'm sure it'd be fine in basic games among friends, but in a tourney would that be allowed?

Thanks to all who read/reply...

1. Correct, it's part of the normal wargear when you buy the unit.

2. You can immediately move 3 inches in any direction and the unit begins to function as normal (Yes, you can also move again due to ATSKNF).

3. Correct.

4. Correct.

5. The MM on a LRC can be fired as its main weapon when it moves 6 inches OR you can fire the TL Assault Cannon as the main weapon and use POTMS to fire the MM at a different target, while Hurricane Bolters fire in either case as they are defensive weapons, but they fire at the same target as the main weapon. Look at its profile for range and strength.

6. You choose which chapter tactics rule you want to use. So, in your case you would get Shrike's Fleet and not get Lysander's stubborn, but yes, you will still get Bolter Drill.

7. I don't see why not, as long as your don't field the actual LotD squad and keep the models to be Tacs.

For 5 - have a look at vehicles shooting, this tells you how many and what type of weapons vehicles can fire, based on how far they move.

Landraiders have PotMS, which lets them fire one more weapon than they normally can do, and can also fire it at a different target to the rest of th e vehicle. So normally if your vehicle moves 12" it could not fire anything (it isnt a Fast vehicle) however PotMS lets you fire one more than usual.

on a LRC, the Assault Cannon could fire as main, hurricane bolters as defensive, and MM with PotMS???? (when moving at 6" speed or less...)

then one weapon at 12" movement, IE MM/AC/ or one sponson,... am I correct in all this, and that only one sponson could fire..?

thanks peeps

It goes like this.

Stationary: the model can fire all weapons. One of the weapons may fire at a different target because of POTMS.

<6" Move: the model can fire either the Assault Cannon or the Multimelta, as well as the hurricanes, at the same target. The weapon that didn't fire can fire at a different target because of POTMS.

6-12" Move: the model can fire any single weapon (Assault Cannon, Multimelta, or one of the Hurricane Bolter sponsons) with POTMS.
