As the title say basically. I'm totally new to Hordes and Warmachine. I had a look about at the different factions on offer and couldn't resist the trolls.
Anyways heres a 35 point list that i made up, is it any good at all?

Hoarluk Doomshaper, Shaman of the gnarls (+7 warbeast points)
Mulg the Ancient (12)
Dire troll Mauler (9)
Pyre Troll (5)
Krielstone Bearer and stone scribes, leader and 5 grunts (4)
Trollkin Fenblades, Leader and 5 grunts (5)
Trollkin Fenblades Officer and Drummer (2)
Trollkin Runebearer (2)
Fell caller Hero (3)

i would advise against doomshaper. he has some tricks but is difficult in sealing the deal in a game. i would recommend maybe his epic version, who is alot more aggressive. if your look for another "meat and potatoes" warlock i would suggest madrak.

in any light i always recommend the scribe elder with the kreilstone

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

Well, I can't tell you anything about trolls (but they'd probably be my go-to choice if I started Hordes), but as a newer Warmachine player, I can say this:

Start small. If you're totally new, grab the Troll Warpack and play a bunch of Battlebox games. Then look around on the PP forum to see what units would be good to get to 15 points.

After that, go up to 25 when you think you're ready. Play a few games. Purchase a few more Solos and Units, maybe even a second Warcaster or two, and start swapping.

After that, progress up to 35 points. That way, you'll now how the game works, and have plenty of games under your belt.

Smaller games is probably the best way to go, start with the Battle box then move on up to get a feel of how the different units work out. But i'll probably end up with this list at 35 points:

eHorluk -7
Mulg +12
Earthborn Dire troll +10
Diretroll Mauler +9
Troll Axer +6
Runebearer +2
Troll Whelps +2
Swamp gobber bellows +1

35 pts total

From my very limited experience with trolls (I just picked them up too ) I can tell you that the EBDT and the DTM are beastly in combat, especially if you can keep them next to an obstacle, as the EBDT gets a bonus to def or arm and can grant that to someone else near him. Those two HURT being on the receiving end. pDoomie gives you some interesting choices as his feat is devastating, because it damages as long as focus or fury is spent or generated, he has a scroll that lets you choose the target of a frenzied beast, and can upkeep a single spell for free (fortune has been my go to spell for this).

But they're right, hes a might tricky to use. I would also also see about dropping the axer for the Impaler as hes no slouch in ranged or melee combat, but then you'd have a spare point to spend.
