Share a moment that made your opinion of something in the game change....I will start.

It was the early 90s and I had just started war gaming. My neighbor and his buddy got me into it. They both had marine armies and told me I should probably play anything but marines that way we could play different games. After looking at all the armies available and having played the old Space Hulk video game I decided to play Tyranids.

This was back before codices and all I had was that list in one of the main books to build my army with. I had some gene stealers and some carnifi and a hive tyrant. If I ever got close enough it was game over for the marines, and that is how I played, and I often won a lot of games from just getting half my genestetalers in to CC.

Then one day we met up at the local game shop and my buddy has this huge grin on his face. I mean Joker big. He says I figured out how to beat your Nids in hand to hand combat. I laughed. The Ultra Marine codex had just come out and I hadn't read it yet. We set up a game and he is laughing the whole time, and I still can't figure out why. Then comes in Marneus Calgar, with his ultra over powered stats and abilties and crushes all my gene stealers pretty much all alone.

This is the story of why I hate the Ultra Marines. When I got back into war gaming recently after a 15 year break I still remember my deep rooted hatred for Calgar. The game store is still open and the owner really gets a kick out of my childhood memory of hating Calgar.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of the Eldar!

When I started my Imperial Guard army, I was spending more time painting each model than any army before. I had been reading lots of IG novels where the Guardsmen are portrayed as badasses and competent soldiers. I finally took to the field and watched in horror as 30 of my men evaporated in one phase. From that point on, I appreciated how tough my Marines were, and how cheap life is for the Imperial Guard.

Reading Legion (Dan Abnett) and Soul Hunter (Aaron Dembski-Bowden). Until I read these, I always dismissed Chaos Marines as being without any kind of logic, reason, or sense behind them. Now, at least, I can stomach the Alpha Legion and the Night Lords. They make sense, from a story perspective. I still don't think the other Chaos forces do.

Heh, I was the opposite. I was a big Chaos Space Marine fan, but after I read Soul Hunter I couldn't tolerate the Night Lords. I mean the writing style is good, but it acts as if the Black Legion and Chaos Gods have an IQ of 3 and the Night Lords are the best evah. It feels like the author hated Chaos but liked how the Night Lords' armor looked so decided to write about them anyways.

Nah thats what the night lords thought, and so acted in that manner

I made friends who I would never of met otherwise, and a hobby more addictive than anything. I even remember some little jerk telling me to go away the first time I set foot in the store, then the manager kicked him out and let me in. Days of glory indeed

Lonelictor- I think that's why I liked the books so much. I know some folks love Chaos, but I always felt like the Black Legion and the Chaos Gods did have an IQ of 3. It seems to play out that way in most of the fluff, anyway. I like how the Night Lords have no real place anymore, since they don't want to be Chaos, the can't be Imperial, their own legion is turning on itself. It's got all the emotional depth of some angsty emo story but with actual manliness.

In my first 40k game ever, my Soul Grinder kicked over a monolith. I lost, but the look on my friend's face as his most amazing tank fell apart to a pissy-kick. (Soul Grinder was pissed...kicked it...you get the idea)

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It should be one of the ranged weapon options like phlegm and vomit, without a doubt. It would get 10 sustained fire dice.

PS I am a juvenile four year old and this is amusing me more than it should.

One line from the Bloodtide story.

In less than a minute, I went from occasionally thinking, "Hey, Grey Knights might be a cool army to start, they got nice minis," to, "Gonna puke, AND GREY KNIGHTS MUST DIE!!!" and I mutilated my old, nicely-painted, metal Grey Knight Terminator using a pair of clippers and a brush of red paint.
