hi, I want to start a mordor list for a variety of reasons:
1) need an army that wont get slaughtered (like my army of the dead) for 500pt, 750pt and 1000pt games
2) need an army for "the last alliance" game which me and some of my friends will be running (sauron! woot!)
so, 500pt list:
Moranan orc captain (45pt)
orc drummer (40)
2 orcs with shields and banners (62pt)
19 orcs with bows(126)
18 orcs with shields (108)
19 orcs with spears (114)
1 orc (can he have a 2 handed weapon???) (5pt)
total (500)

is that any good?

750 pt list:
sauron and the one ring: 450
orc with shield and banner: 31
44 orcs with 1 pt upgrades (264)
1 orc (5)
total (750)

and 1000pt:
sauron with one ring (450)
orc drummer (40)
2 orcs with shields and banners (62pt)
19 orcs with bows(126)
18 orcs with shields (108)
19 orcs with spears (114)
allies: shade (100)
total: (1000)

what do you think?

I don't know for how long you've been playing SBG, but 1) Banner is a 2-handed weapon, so no shields allowed 2) Your first list is not LoME legal. In 500points you can only have a maximum of 50models. For the rest, in 750 points I think Sauron is faaaaaaaaaar too expensive, so drop him and get yourself some more dudes. The rest looks pretty sollid

yeah, i used to play it loads and then dropped out for about 3 years and im just getting back into it so you can see why my list making is a bit rusty.
ok, so:
orc drummer (40)
2 orcs with shields and banners (62pt)
46 orks with 1pt upgrades (need help choosing) (276)

that gives me 122 pts remaining. now, with this, i can either get myself a ringwraith (i think the shadow lord might be quite useful seeing as he gives the whole 6+ to hit anything nearby, but sadly he's very fragile) OR just get a regualer captain and use the remaining points to upgrade some orcs to moranan orcs, or uruks ect, ect.
any thoughts?

I like the Shadowlord idea, he is very good and if you switch a few normal orcs for some more elite units, they can have the protection of the shadowlord untill they are in close combat. The orc drummer is a good idea. One thing tough: no one can carry a banner AND shield like I already said. A banner counts as a 2-handed weapon, only without the wounding bonus. So no shields with banners Apart from that the list looks solid Play a few games with it, and then look what kind of things you still need in your army.

12x Orc with Bow - 72 (this will enable you to volley and have xtra)
11x Orc with Two-Handed - 66 (they seem pretty strong )
11x Orc with Shield - 66
11x Orc with Spear - 66

500 points, 49 men, 12 bows

The banner is your own choice. Some people love it, others hate it. This is a pretty basic list (I think), but you can also swap out some regular Orcs for Mordor Uruk-Hai or Mordor Trolls.

I don't know, I've never played a Mordor army. I do think it is pretty strong, because you have a lot of guys, and you will just overwhelm your enemy.

About the hornblower, I also heared they are pretty useful. I would say, drop the shields, spears or 2-handeds, but no bows, volleying is pretty cool
