I was just on the store locater here on dakka and went to each indie store's websites.
I was sort of dismayed as to the lack of RTT style gaming on the monthly calanders. Is the tournament scene for 40k actually rather sparse in the Metroplex? Or are the 40k tourney's simply not on the calandars.
If I recall correctly, back when I used to live in Irving, Area 51 used to be called Gen X (no offense if I'm mistaken)and that's where I started my tourney habit. (this was way back in the day....around '93-'95)
Anyway, I was just wondering as I'm looking to move back to Texas here within the next 6 months. I'm hoping to not find it to be a 40k desert.

Apparently Austin is the 40k Mecca. We have the same problem down in Bryan/College Station. There just isn't enough going on for the community to really take hold.
There are like 2934890 treads about DFW gaming though.

There are players though right? Enough to support Tournament gaming?
Perhaps someone just needs to organise more in that direction?

I would love to know, I just moved to Ft. Worth. And came from a lot of gaming the the Northern Virginia area. So have been looking for places to play. I have no problem in driving to Austin for a tournament(only about 3-3.5 hours away) but for regular gaming where does everyone go? Haven't checked out either of the GW's but heard that the Grapevine Mills one is pretty small.

keep an eye on http://www.comicasylum.com/home Comic Asylum in richardson (they post all their events under the "tournament Calender" tab. They do at least one tournament a month. Last weekend was 1500 40k weekend before that was 2500 wfb. Next month it is at 750pt 40k (I have no idea why they decided that would be a good limit). But otherwise they do quite a few normal point level tourneys. Another good place for info on north Texas GW gaming is at http://www.adeptusnorthtexas.com/ most of the good stuff is behind the discussion board link. And welcome back to Texas.

I attend SHSU in Huntsville and drive to a place called Fat Ogre Games and Comics http://www.fatogre.com/ and it's located in The Woodlands(just north of Houston) and about a 45 min drive down I-45. I believe it is the same distance from the Bryan/College station area. They hold tournaments and have boards for casual gaming.

I am in DFW, and have to say there are more local events that I even have time to attend.
On any given week, there are games a multitude of stores I could go to...the challenge is not in finding a game, but in which store I want to give my patronage to!

Well I live in aledo and make the drive to camp bowie and go to the lone star comics and games there. Nice place, good customer service, and 40k/fantasy games every sunday, alternating. I have also heard of area 51 and y2komics and have not been to either one, mostly because area 51 is mostly warmachine and hordes these days and both are a bit far. problem with lone star comics and games is it's pretty small and the table is only like 2x3 feet. And shipments come in slow. oh well.

The answer to everything Lord Commisar, Is cheese. You can run the tanks on melted cheese. You could feed to troops cheese. You could build bases with cheese. We can repel the aliens and traitors with cheese. We can defend the Imperium with cheese. |
