How dose one transfer models and paints on airplanes? I am soon going to be going to my grandparents house for the summer and want to bring along some stuff to paint. Should I take these as a carry on? Dose the pressure effect the paint? I am sure tournament players know, so any help would be great.

You'll want to put your paints in the checked luggage, not in carry on, due to the liquid limitations.

The paint should be fine with any kind of pressure, don't forget much of it gets shipped around the world in planes as well

Do remember not to bring anything sharp in carryon either, for example if you're planning to bring your x-acto knife and such.

I'm planning to do the exact same thing, and will simply use a checked army bag for all the paint, tools and models that aren't assembled, as well as any other liquids such as deodorant etc. and then have my normal bag with clothingm etc. and any models that are already assembled, so they don't break in transit, as carryon

First: Make sure your paints (AND GLUE!) are in a sealed container, preferably individually, in case they burst/break/leak while in the air. Put knives, cutters, etc in the checked bags as well.

Second: I do not recommend putting any models, finished or otherwise, in a checked bag. Checked bags get thrown around with careless abandon regardless of any 'fragile/heavy/etc' sticker on them. Carry them on the plane with you if at all possible, and if not have them mailed to you. Make sure there's adequate padding in a hard plastic case, whichever option you use.

I've only transported an army on a smaller regional plane. Sabol Army Transport Platoon fit under the seat no problem and would also fit in the overhead. Sabol Army Transport Motor Pool should fit under the seat as it is just a Platoon bag that is 2x deep.

Be prepared for security to go into your bag as:

1. Resin looks suspicious in the scanner.
2. The layered metal models in your case look suspicious in the scanner

I would buy a gw mini case. The one that looks like a small brief case. That would be best for the models and bring them as carry on. Also dont lie when people ask whats in the case be like "tiny little people that fight to the death for me".

The one time people asked me, I did tell them the truth. 'Wargaming miniatures -- plastic soldiers. Some of 'em are pewter.' I got a couple funny looks since I'm female, but whatever.

How about one of those gaming foam-filled backpacks that have just been released? Cant rememer the name of the company Kaiser Rushforth I think??).

You could just take it on as hand luggage.

If it's a big deal and there's time to prep, look on eBay for a hard shipping case (Pelican or similar) and ship the stuff to/from your grandparents. If the case is big enough, put any existing cases inside the hard case's foam for more protection.

(Make sure not to put spray cans in, as they can be touchy about these. In fact, check with the shipper about any liquids, etc. if you go this route.)

This. Shipping your stuff will save you a lot of pain. I have heard one too many horror stories about minis getting destroyed by airport workers.

Also, we've had top ship robots for robotic competitions and people who ship with UPS tend to have a lot of trouble. Ship with fedex. Also, try to pick up package at the fedex distribution center as it will save money.
