This was the event that I knew would win me back my admission costs this year, so I ran to the tables as soon as the doors flung open. After clipping and pocketing 8 Dark Eldar blaster weapons and 3 pairs of feathered Dark Eldar Scourge wings, I went to work on my model. Since I was first, I was lucky to get entire sprues, so I got a dreadnought torso sprue. I also got a Tau crisis suit sprue that didn't include a torso. Hmmmm.... This was the result:

I ended up being in a tie for first place with this guy's model, and his eventually won out:

Mind you, we only had 45 minutes to make these models, and the glue they provided was awful, I only stood a chance because I had some hobby glue and kicker with me during the competition.

How does the contest work? They give you a batch of sprues and tell you to figure something out?

And 2000th post, w00t w00t!

Yeah, they give you clippers and some glue, and a bunch of plastic sprues, and you have 45 minutes to build a creation for judging. If your model gets selected for judging, then you get to keep it. I made sure to do the first contest of the day, at 10:15 AM, that's when all the new Dark Eldar sprues were still fresh and untouched.

I think yours should have won.

You guys sure got some good sprues to work with. At Baltimore last year all they had were various chaos crap.

I went to the Fantasy event. I got a sprue of Chaos Warriors and three sprues of Marauders. No daemons, no mutations, nothing cool like most others wound up with. I wound up making about ten warriors for my troubles. Next year, should I go, I'll be making terrain.

So, you kinda cheated by bringing your own glue, and on top of that you stole a bunch of bits so other people couldn't use them later in the day? Well, congratulations. You're a real winner.

I don't see these bits on your mini. What did you do with them?

Did the contest rules say anything about bringing your own glue?

What part of "clipping and pocketing" did you not understand?

The only time I saw the guys stop someone from doing their own thing was when someone tried to pull out a hobby saw to do some precision cutting. But, yea, GW glue can be pretty damned aweful. Honestly, a bottle of zip kicker would have been fine as it works with the GW stuff anyway.

Haha, the model that beat out mine in the first contest of the day ended up winning first overall:

Well played, Mr. Leonard, well played (slowly claps).
