Some likely stupid questions: Do you need line of sight to the unit you are using it on? Can you purposely angle it to hit two separate units?

Stupid Question 3 - The narrow end of the template has to be within 12 inches of the DK, but the target unit can be further away, yes?

Yes, but I believe you have to place the template, before you measure. If your in range, Cool (or Hot). If its outside the range, then its a miss.

Stupid Question #4 - Let's say someone has a really big, spread out unit, most of which is out of LOS. The part you can see is out of range of your HI, but the part you cannot see is close enough to hit. Can you angle the template to hit the hidden part of the unit?

You need to see the unit you want to hit, not the models.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Oh, this is an important point if true. It would be weird if this were correct though....

You place the template, and if any part of it can touch the unit you are in range.
The template rules require you to hit as many models as possible in the target unit, which can indeed force you to place the template covering models out of los - but this is perfectly fine.

So do you place the template and then measure, or measure 12 inches and then place the narrow end of the template within that?

I believe that you measure then place. The reasoning for this is because it says something like "it may be placed anywhere within 12"... " and you are still required to cover the most amount of models possible. So the way I play it is measure out 12" the place the template so I can get as many models as is possible from there.

After reading the 'to fire the heavy incinerator,' rules, is does say to 'place the template so that the narrow end is within 12".'

Hmm, now that I think about it, it makes sense. Measure then place.
Thanks guys!
