Gitsplitta: yes, he did me really proud

monkeytroll: agreed!

inmygravenimage: the warhammer quest bug, mainly. If he ever wants to play proper WHFB, I'll introduce him.

lindsay40k: thanks, those are some fun models idneed. Hope you enjoy the read!

Captain Brown: Thanks, here's number two!

So, weirdgrot numba 2. I initally wanted this one to have power pouring out of his eyes and mouth, but reconsiderd since it would obscure the face completely. Still felt like a visual waaghh manifestation was a fun idea though, also makes very clear what he is. Matters to me, since I want to play my army in pick-up games.

Still debating whether to have the cables going from his head to his staff like the first one, but I feel it might clutter the model up. This guy just might take the prize for most pinned model: waist to legs, arm, both hands, staff, waagh power manifestation has 3 pins,... C&C welcome as always!

monkeytroll: thanks! Gonna mess around a bit with him some more!

Coh Magnussen: Thanks!

Bellerophon: Paint tends to take a while with me, but it's relatively speaking in the front of the painting line

Cleatus: Thanks! The swirly bit is just a greenstuff sausage twisted (a lot).

Midget Gems: yeah, pretty proud of him, my first work wasn't half as good. I'll get painting on the weirdgrots soon(ish), I'm curious as well to see how they turn out painted

So, been a tad busy at work, but finally got some dakka (and modelling time) in . Not much to show you guys yet, but I did get another doomchicken built (giving me 8 total right now). I'll build the unit up to ten at least, probably 15.

Off to paint some, see you guys later!

So, been away for a bit again, real life getting in the way etc... Still, after a thorough cleaning of the hobby room, which had become a bit of a dumping ground ,the grots are back

First off: apologies for the late replies to all the people who replied here; my new year's resolution will be to reply immediately. I usually only want to reply if I have pics, but that means that I can take a ridiculously long time to answer. So, no more of that!

With that out of ghe way, here's some replies, followed by pics of doomchickens.

Captain Brown: thanks

Theophony: 'Flockin'. Gonna remember that

amazingturtles: thank you!

inmygravenimage: yeah, I'm giong to replace all my antennae with pin heads. A lot sturdier.

To demonstrate the point above, here's a littly guy whose antenna I had to replace after it broke off:

A doomchicken that had its controller added:

And a fully painted new one, with a home-made plasticard headshield:

Hope you guys like the pics! Oh, and I also hope I won't take another two months before my next post

Arakasi: thanks (again)

Dysartes: you can never have enough of them chickens . Got some games in, and I like the build diversity as long as you don't go super-competitive. Shame about killa kans though, but the rest of the book is good fun. Two battlewagons and some support seem like a nice CC portion, and I use tankbustas and lootas for krumpin' vehicles and stuff that's too hard to tackle in cc. Mek guns are pretty decent too, though I haven't fielded like 18 of'em yet

amazingturtles: thanks! The remotes are pretty easy if you've ever painted gems or screens (used to play High Elves in WHFB, so I've had lots of practice)

Meer_Cat: thanks! That's more or less the whole point of this army: grots doing ridiculous stuff and then proceeding to blow you up!

Gitsplitta: thank you!

So, for today, lots of random stuff! First off, I finished my first weirdgrot:

Still need to touch up his staff apparently... Oops

I added the shrooms ot his base because the orginial bit of chain broke off, and now I can hide the plasticard tube that it's inserted into between the 'shroom stems. And it adds some colour

Then, this lttle guy lost his orginal chainsword, so I gave him a new'un.

he's good to go again!

Some WIPs then, some grots and a start on the second weirdboy::

Hope you guys like'em!

Captain Brown: yup, a little throwback to WHFB .

mcmattila: thanks!

Llamahead: thank you, bit of paint on it below

So, I spent most of my weekend in the garden, since we had the first good time in well, ages. I still got some small stuff done here and there though

First off, the waagh manifestation. While painting it, the hand came loose of the weirdgrot, but thankfully it was just the glue near the pin that let go. So I'll just paint the hand and leave it like that till the mini is fully painted, then re-atttach it

I made sure to use a different green from the grots, and as otherworldly as possible. Bit of a throwback to the old striking scorpion green, which seems to turn out alright. I did consider other colours besides green, but it's a physical manifestation of waagh! energy.. I really feel it should be green!

I also messed around a bit with my airbrush, playing around with pressure and consistency. Coverage is down now, but my airbrush doesn't clog up anymore, So I guess I'm getting close to the optimal mix:

3 more mek guns who will be finding their way to a gaming table should add some fun to the gaming mix - only 13 more to go .

Cheers!
Made in be

Belgium

Flinty: thanks . And I agree, the clogging is a lot more annoying than applying a second coat. Still learning the ropes with the airbrush, so it's always eksperementin' time

For today, some random progress (nothing new here ).

First off, a finished grot. No particular reason I painted this guy, just feel like doing a basic grot once in a while:

I've been experimenting with the grot skins, since my old colours have no realy substitute. I'll need to move away a bit from drybrushing and more towards layering methinks to get a smoother effect on these.

Next up, a mek gun PIP:

there's a ridiculous amount of detail on these; I love it, but I think it's faster to paint a battlewagon, especially once you factor in the crew, which are ove rhalf a grot unit... Lovely model though.

And for finishers, some skin done on my PIP grots, including the weirdgrot:

I'll probably add another highlight to these guys, though the pic is very dark; dakka auto-correct had it looking like they were getting hit by a plasma gun though, so that wasn't an option.

Cheers folks!

Hey guys, as usual, I got lost in the warp for a few months. Something I'll have to learn to accept: personal life will get in the way of playing with the little guys...

Yet, as is tradition, let's answer some comments. Long overdue, but blame the warp .

amazingturtles: and he'll steal a lot more if you let him . Thank you!

Anvildude: didn't go all the way to white, though I still might. Hope you like it better now!

Captain Brown: I use a mix made of sepia, green wash, and water (1/3 each). And agreed on the extra bodies. They'll still be worth it in the end though, and they make things look purrty .

jseverin: Thanks! New builds (well, a new doomchicken anyway) below!

So, while stuck in the warp, I did manage to get some minor stuff done over the months...

First off: the fully painted weirdgrot:

Not my best work, but considering my lack of practice, he'll do for now.

Next up, an old kannon crewmember, who will be used for the mek gun crew:

Some converted gun crew, since I'm still obsessing about not having any identical grots in my army (and by that I mean more than just paint jobs; giving one grot a red cap and the other a green one doesn't make for different models IMHO)

These guys actually had some paint put on since taking the pics, they're looking quite nice .

And, to finish off, Doommchicken no. 9:

He has a controller waiting form him with a remote, so it's all good

Hope you guys enjoyed the pics, and let's hope I don't take another 8 months to update again .

Made in be

Belgium

Yorkright: thanks! Not 100% happy with the paint job, but he'll do for now.

Captain Brown: Thank you!

For today, just a few pics of my 6th mek gun:

I Also converted some grots into crew, since the 'no duplicates rule ' applies for these guys as well

You can't quite catch it on the pic, but the guy on the right is carrying a big underslung screwdriver. I tapered the plastic rod, but that's hard to catch in a pic.

Of, and I finally unboxed some old grot tekkies:

Should make some nice additional crewmembers.

Meer_Cat: Thanks! And I agree on making the models recognizable: I believe it matters a lot, especialy when you're using a counts-as army.

Gitsplitta: Thanks you!

inmygravenimage: Thanks, it's good to be back

For today: some paint tossed on the mek gun crew. I've got plenty of grots to stand in as crew, but I'd like to add a bunch specifially for all my mek guns. Since I made six so far, that's 36 grots, of which I have 8 painted right now - and 5 more built . Time to get some more grot boxes methinks!

Hope you guys like'm since I'll have 5 more pairs of these guys popping up along the way .

Thanks Gits! Gotta admit I have a soft spot for some of the older models as well. The Brian Nelson greenskins in particular are ones I find to be full of character.

For piccies today, I managed to finish the doomchicken I showed a few posts back:

Doomchicken number 10 is being built as we speak, along with random stuff being painted. Bit of this, bit of that, as always .

inmygravenimage: Thanks! I'm always amazed by the attention these little critters get

ChaoticMind: 15, and 5 bommdrones, to be precise . That'll net me some nice tankbusting power. And they're good fun to make, which helps a lot!

Yorkright: Got that right! Interesting choice, most people say blue and orange, but I can see your point

For today, more random stuff! Well, me trying to get some clutter off my painting desk mainly, so I decided to get to work on the burnawagon. All the big colour blocks are on and shaded, so now it's time for some detailing, graffiti, and then weathering of course .

The lenses were painted purple because... I could basically . They still need a coat of gloss varnish, but mine dried out, so I need to get a new pot. The sponsons still need some love too, they're still being worked up to the 'orange' stage. As always, suggestions for graffiti are most welcome .

stonned_astartes: thanks; could you expand on the 'buffalo' thing? I seem to have missed a reference

Yorkright: working on the driver as we speak . I might add a grot on top, but I was considering keeping it clear for passengers... Still might add those later, I'll have to look at it once it gets closer to being finished!

Gitsplitta: Thanks!n It's one of those models were the gubbinz met the bitz just right

Tim 121RVC: Thanks! I'm using standard ork weirdboy powers, so whichever one I need at the time

ChaoticMind: thanks, going to add something like that!

For today's pics, just some basic stuff: 3mek guns oranged up and some crew who had their skins done:

Two are missing their wheels (they'(re being painted as we speak), which kinda explains the wonky poses .

And the crew:

I'm working on the next doomchicken (almost finished), so that one will be up next I guess. Becasue one can never have enough doomchickens

stonned_astartes: ooh, nice. You could easily make this out of a chimera methinks, or one of those AdMech transports. Also, I did a BW a while back that has some elements of it:

Spoiler:

'A while back' being 6 years ago or so

Anvildude: now there's a proppa mek approach

For today, some random updates (as always )

First off, Doomchicken no. 10:

The faceplate is hard to get a proper pic of with the gs on it, it'll hopelfully be clearer once I slap some paint on it.

Also made a start on the handler:

I wanted to use one of the singlepose models, hence the extensive cutting and need for gs. I'll add a head once I've sculpted the arm.

And for desserts: the start of a waaghh banner bearer, using an old red gobbo model in desperate need of some love! The club in his right hand had snapped of, so I decided add a banner will be added there, so he can inspire his fellow revolutionaries. The hand has been drilled through and slightly repostioned. I also removed the tab underneath his feeth (forgot how warm white metal gets when cutting with a dremel... ouch). Not sure about the gun in his right hand, that's still up for debate. I will probaly be adding a commissar's cap . To add some height, he'll be getting a doomchicken variant, with an articulated head that can count as a power klaw.

Not much to, look at yet, but it should give you an idea:

The legs are from and old metakl killa kan, for those wondering. Hope you enjoyed the pics, suggestions welcome as always!

Yorkright: The wife has a good burn wounds salve - it wasn't too bad, just slightly reddish by the end of the evening

Pomander Cask: Thanks! The doomchickens seem to strike a chord with most people

Arakasi: glad to be of assistance! It was all I could do with the model anyway, the body is horribly warped, so it's being used for emebellishment all over the grot force.

sajmonikpl1: thanks! And I agree: grots add some of the weird humour previous iterations of the game had in spades. These days 40k takes itself too seriously.

ChaoticMind: DoomTurkey! Love it! My red gobbo will be riding a doomturkey from now on . If I ever get a 'Naught, it will be more like a moving fortress methinks, with big-ass tracks. I will have to see if (when) I get hold of the model.

Theophony: Happy to be there . I'll probably bump'em up to 15, since they're good fun to make .

For today, all kinds of random stuff. First off, some painting was done.

A singular grot I found lying around on my hobby desk got a few more coats of paint to finish him off:

The flesh is a lot smoother irl, getting it blown up to 5 times the model size does exaggerate that a tad...

Also; the driver from the burnawagon got a lick of paint:

I tried to take a pic at the angle he'll be in the wagon. Once I've done the graffiti and the weathering, he's getting glued in place.

Then, some progress on the waagh banner. A cap and a banner pole were added to the red gobbo model:

The doomturkey got some work done on his head. It looks a tad big right now, but that'll work out fine once the body gets fleshed out.

I'll be adding exhausts to the rear to balance the model out visually. I'm glas this guy is on a 40mm base, No way I could fit this on a 32 mm base .

The model as-is:

I like the dynamic pose of the red gobbo vs the more lumbering look of the cyclopean Doomturkey. I just hope I can do him justice with a nice mount!

Theophony: I can see a family resemblance . Is that show still on? I used to watch it ages ago...

Yorkright: thanks! He took some inspiration from both squigs, mousers, and cartoon rottweilers

Captain Brown: Not to mention doing something about my backlog of ideas and all the minis I got for them

ChaoticMind: Ah, a proud parent .

For piccies today, a finished Doomturkey! I built up the body a tad, balancing the model out visually:

I've been thinking that the legs I used make it a tad static. Then again, had I built my own practically notghing on this model would've been GW . He's takes design cues from a lot of different sources: squigs ( bit of skarsnik and gobbla going on), mousers from TMNT, the rottweiler from Tom&Jerry...

And here he is with his rider:

This balances the model out nicely I feel. Now, I jus thave to consider the flag. I think I want one streaming towards the rear of the model, but I might still go for one hanging off a crossbar.. Still needs a good night's sleep .

Made in be

Theophony:
Not sure if the show is still on, haven’t seen it I need almost a decade myself

Still runs, I checked . I tried the flag idea, but it didn't look right. i'll let you know how it turns out in the end.

Warboss_Waaazag: Thanks! And don't worry, dakka asks me everytime I update the blog if I want that many exclamation marks, because people might not take my post seriously becauqe of it

For today's update, I decided to both make a start on my backlog of models for the squeaky waaagh, and continue with the new stuff. So, a bit of everything, as always

First off, the old stuff:

Not the best pic, but just to show that I've started work on the crew of this beauty:

Let's see if anyone remembers what it is

For the new stuff, I did some work on the grot gun crew (less bright irl!):

and on doomchicken numba 9:

Now I just need the weather to clear up so I can undercoat the chicken's handler, chicken number 10 and some other stuff. Anf if the weather doesn't clear up, I can build more doomchickens. Win-win in my book

Briancj: grabba klaw arm from a BW, but correct on the SAG . It counts as my big mek with SAG, or, more probably, the souped-up version. Here's how the full model is supposed to look:

Spoiler:

Yorkright: thanks! I was mainly referring to the pic; I agree that grots look best with bright green skins.

As stated a few posts above, I'bve been trying to make some room on my painting shelf by, you know, actually finishing stuff . Since the burnawagon was in that dreaded 'near-finished' limbo, I decided to push through and get it done. It's left a nice empty spot on my painting desk waiting to be filled by some other contraption .

Here's a fly-around:

I kinda like the look of the grot driver through the glass .

And a top shot:

In the end, I didn't add loads of graffiti because of all the armour plating adding lots of interest already; I might add a grot somewhere just to add in some more green, as Yorkright suggested. Or I might go back andd add some more graffiti to it later as well, but for now I'm calling it finished.

Hope you enjoyed the pics!

Yorkright: Thanks mate! I've just realised this blog started almost ten years ago; I started november 20th 2009. I'll get you a nice groupshot the 20th .

inmygravenimage: those are the best tanks .

Arakasi: I agree on the orange, might go back to it later. Then again, I believe I've read that same comment every time you saw orange in here . I can never get the struts on the windows to look good, so I've decided to stay off'em till I find a solution.

Captain Brown: thanks!

Syro_: Thank you! I've decided to get some stuff off my desk, and this one seemed like a good start. I'll be adding a new doomchicken pic soonish methinks, need to build some more too.

For today's pics, no doomchickens, but I did get the grot crew for an addiitonal mek gun finished. Since I've started this blog on November 20th, 2019 (time flies ), expect a bit of a retrospective then. For now, grot crew piccies:

inmygravenimage: thanks, now I have an image stuck in my head of time-travelling flies with rayguns .

So, dear readers, to the day today, it's been 10 years. Ten years since I started this blog. Barring wife and kids, this may be my longest-term project ever . One could argue that it hasn't always been active, which is true. Life will do that - to me anwyays. But I always find myself drawn back to the little greenies, since they're one of the spots where creativity barely knows bounds, and I can channel all the crazy in my head. My grots may have prevented a number of axe-murders .

So, in honour of those ten years, let's take a look at where the painted horde stands right now. From a few different angles, since 'spray and pray' works for both guns and cameras .

Of course, this is only the painted stuff. As a frantic converter, I tend to build a lot more than I paint. That combined with a compulsive tendeny to start new stuff, has led to quite a backlog. Some minis have become less interesting once my skills evolved, or the edition changed... Some are just stuck behind a curse of procrastrination.

Let's have a look at all the minis, painted or not:

Quite a lot more... Still, I've decided to tackle the occasional old project between newer stuff to get rid of some of the backlog. let's see how good I keep it up

I also figured I'd show off my HQs, since I'm quite proud of 'em

Painted:

And WIP:

And since everybody likes doomchickens, I'll close off with a pic of those

Syro_: Thanks! The stompa is one of those models I'm looking towards finishing. It's been languisign in WIP-hell for 5 years or so I think .

lindsay40k: thanks, I'll give that a go! I just can't get those struts to look right in my mind...

inmygravenimage: Thanks! And right back at ya, apparently

Pomander Cask: Ten years with quite big breaks in between, mind you . As for coherency: I spent some timing getting my colour choices right and experimenting. Shades might differ subtly, but the voerall colour them has remaind solid for these 10 years.

Yorkright: Thanks! And I ahven't shown my Orc army yet, though I have quite a big one for WHFB .

Captain Brown: Thank you! I agree it takes a while, but I love seeing the whole army arrated before me.

So, some pore progress, onto to the next ten years

Some random WIPS today, as is pretty much standard:

First off, the finished SAG krew:

Work is progressing on the SAG itself, I hope to show the complete model soonish

Also, a doomchicken, awaiting its controller:

inmygravenimage: thanks, on both accounts!

Yorkright: For 40K, I have imperial guard, Night Lords, and my beloved grots. For the world that was, I have: High Elves, Orcs and gobbos, Chaos warriors, Tomb Kings, Empire, Brettonnia, and Chaos dwarfs. Maybe I'll post pics at some point, but most of these were painted before dakka even existed

Syro_: Well, I got the basecoat on.. It's just that I had to add ridiculous amounts of detail everywhere...

Briancj: If you start from fresh, sure. But I'm a stickler for matching colour throughout the army...

Dr H: Thanks!

For today, some random stuff I cobbled together while prepping for LARP this weekend

First off, I finished the DoomTurkey, adding a banner that suited the look of the red gobbo:

And to finish off, another counts-as bommsquig:

Hiya folks, slightly over a year since I posted here.. Time to get going again methinks. Not sure how long it'll last, but this really is an army I always return to at some point, so this thread will slowly continue to grow at its own steady pace.

Traditionally, let's start off with answering a year-old replies

Meer_Cat; thanks! bionic hand grot is getting some paint, it's drying while I type this

Theophony: Thanks, it might even get painted by next year's thanksgiving

Gitsplitta, Captain Brown, Midget Gems, Camkhieri, Archer: thanks!

A year has passed since I posted here; lots of stuff happened irl. Some good, some not so good, but all eating away at my hobby time. Lately, time has been at less of a premium, the spark has been rekindled and I started doing some work again, so I figured I'd share it with the nice people of dakka.

First off, a fix of an old model. The green apparition on my weirdgrot kept breaking off, so I added an additional support, making it look like he's drawing energy out of the earth:

Next off, I actually finished some models (shocked gasps can be heard across the galaxy!). I painted 3 of my mek guns that had been undercoated orange, getting them to the finished stage:

I fixed the wheel since taking these pics, glueing it on a tad straighter

I've got 5 mek guns painted now, they just need some more krew added. Next up will porbably be some grots, and maybe expanding my air force. Stay tune,d I hope you guys enjoyed the pics!

Meer_Cat: Thanks. Doesn't feel like a year to me either, but then, it's been a strange year in all...

Arakasi: Thanks, good to be back

So, for today some paint on some grots, and a start on my waaagh banner. The skin is a bit greener then on my other grots, mainly cause my mix I use separated and I basically put on a green wash first Still, a sepia follow-on wash added some nice depth!

I also started adding some paint to the old (and updated) red gobbo mini, which will count as a banna bearer:

The flag is just orange for now, but I'll be adding plenty of blue symbols:

Tonight I'll just undercoat some stuff me thinks, getting everything up to par while watching the star wars movies with half an eye (I managed to get my wife into them, she's really taken a shine to them). So, expect plenty of orange pics soon
Made in be

Belgium

Syro_: thanks! It really doesn't feel like a year... More one of those 'I turned my head and it was gone' moments. Always amazed that people actually remember the models... Loving it!

Yorkright: Thanks, plenty of vibrant stuff for this army . It's kinda weird though, I don't always paint like this (my IG are pretty muted for example), but the grots really lend themselves well to this style.I did start wargaming in GW's 'red period', might have something to do with it

Gitsplitta: Thanks Gits, glad to be back

When it comes to painting, some ups and downs today. On the up side, I finished some of the grots I started in the post above.

Two more mek gun crew are fully painted:

Their skin is more green then my other grots, but I likes this mix. I added more goblin green to the mix instead of my old, sadly dried out knarloc green, and it gave an interesting effect, a lot brighter and healthier-looking, toned down and enriched by the washes.

The two grots with remotes got finished as well:

the snakebite leather contrasts works nicely over grey, I have to say. The drones they'll be handling had a bit of a painting mishap, as detailed below...

So far, the good news. I also managed quite the facepalm-worthy feat. Besides the grots, I also started undercoating a bunch of vehicles with the airbrush. I grabbed a paint pot I thought was filled with instar IV17 (also known as 'not Macharius Solar Orange'), and got to work. Everything went well, till I realized the next morning I hadn't used IV17. Not that bad, just grab the right paint, the coat I gave it was a bit darker, it'll be a shading effect, right? Right, and it acutally worked out that way, till I grabbed my thinner, which turned out to be white spirit, to thin the paint. Thinner will do that. White spirit will turn it into a gooey blob. And of course it was the last of the instar paint...Lesson here kiddos: watch your work .

Still, no man overboard:

Still, the minis are OK,I ordered new instar paint, and I learnt that my FLGS will be stocking vallejo paints, so it's not all bad. Feel free to laugh, by now I can laugh with it as well .

Gitsplitta: Thank you . I love coming back to them, and I never seem to get enough of painting the little buggers.

Theophony: thanks. I agree the support worked out alright, and it really was necessary; Newton didn't like the massive blob of gs being attached to the tiny wrist, even with a pin.

Gulgog TufToof: Thanks! I used mainly gs for the apparition, with some old black orc and corpse cart bits thrown in.

Arakasi: Well, by now I can laugh with it- and I think being able to is essential to keep it all fun. I'm just glad I caught on before I ruined the airbrush. It's a cheap thingy, but that would the kind of amalgamation of errors where I would lose my sense of humour for more then a few minutes.

Today, I shall bring the fine folks of dakka some dreads! Since I couldn't undercoat any new models due to the lack of the correct paint, I started (or should that be continued) on some models in my rather large pile of shame.

I managed to get an old dread finished up.

Nothing fancy, just a barely converted dread. The two lower arms are magnetized, the two upper ones are glued in. I was never overly fond of this model after I built it, and realized why: it's barely converted, and doesn't really follow the squeaky waagh esthetic of taking ork vehicles and making them my own. So, instead of continuing on my pile of shame, I decided to rectify that .

Here's the start of a grottasaurus:

Now that's more likely to fit in with the rest of my gang
- The torso was inverted and tilted forward; where the engine usually goes is now the belly.
- I added a neck to the usual groin area in plasticard, and used the front half of an old metal and badly cast killa kan for the head. The metal head makes him tilt forward (not attached to the base yet), hence the foam prop-up.
- The legs are where the topmost arms usually go; I added beads to go from depression to bulb, which has the added effect of making the model more squat and 'waddly'.
- The holes in the torso are where I cut off the bulbs where the legs usually attach. The front arms will go there.
- One gun will go on the shoulder.
- The tail counts as an additional cc weapon, and is made of of a dread arm, a kan arm, and a heavy flamer bit. All pinned because Newton and because Is imply know I'll be picking this guy up by the tail....

I still need to build a proper attachment system for the arms and shoulder gun (fairly straightforward) and add some detailing, and then she'll be good to go!

So that's where we stand for now. More building and painting is definitely in order, hopefully I can get the grottasaurus up to par .

inmygravenimage: thanks! Couldn't really assemble it since it was badly cast (front and rear half didn't go together properly at all), so this way the bits still se some use. Also, the metal kans are tiny compared to the plastic version. As for the name: maybe a grottasaurus wrex?

Arakasi: thanks! Exactly why I build these little guys, it's a chance to let my imagination run riot

Gitsplitta, Yorkright, Theophony : Thank you!

For piccies today, I give you a fully built grottasaurus wrex!

And a shot with the optional parts; The arms just have tubes the size of the hole added to them, friction let's them stay nicely in place. I'll be adding some more options at some point.

- Both arms use similar saws: one from the dread and one from the kan set.
- The way the gun is attached means I can use all the dread gun options without too much fuss if I want to.
- The converted dread sits about 2 cm lower than a regular dread, but is a lot longer.
- I'd guesstimate he's about 90% dread parts; even the faceplate could be made with dread parts, if you really wanted to.

inmygravenimage: thanks! And you can't have all the good stuff - I'm quite jealous of stuff in your blog at times!

Syro_: thank you! I wanted something that could actually stomp around and charge you instead of waddle towards you .

MeatShield: Glad you like the newer work.

Warboss_Waaazag! Thanks, I love you/it too

On this installment, I felt it was time to expand my airforce. In my attempts to remove the clutter on my desk, I've been finishing semi-painted models (even did a few bits on the stompa), and have been working towards finishing some models that were semi-built as well. This led me to finishing my old bomma, heavily inspired by WWII planes:

The rear will have a gun nest, and here's a pic with the front canopy attached.

Of course, Once I realized how much fun this guys was, I decided my wazzbom that was still shrinkwrapped needed to be built . At least I finished this guy straight away instead of having it languish in builder's limbo for a few years, so the whole 'uncluttering the desk' thingy is still moving forward

The guns are magnetized (easy to do). Othert than that, I moved the cockpit back, and filled up the holes with bitz and fuselage. I really don't like the front cockpit on the ork planes, it looks highly unbalanced and impractical. I realize space marine flyers are even more ridiculous, but still... This simple change really adds to the planes' appearance in my book.

Once painted, this will give me three planes. I also have an old FW fighta-bomma a friend gifted me that needs repainting, and still have a dakkajet unbuilt, so at some point I'll have a 5-strong airwing

Hope you guys liked'em, and stay safe!

inmygravenimage: thanks! No AI players in my FLGS, so I'll have to stick with the bigger toys.

Yorkright: thank you!

Arakasi: well, even WW I planes had a system preventing their gun from shooting the propellers; though I may have to paint on some bullet marks anyway . I hadn't even noticed till you pointed this out; I just followed the instructionns for the tail, silly me!

gobert: Yep, even in the 40K universe, I prefer a modicum of realism. Says the guy who plays tiny green mushrooms...

Theophony: Glad you like Wrex and the planes!

Now, like I said in my other posts above, I've been trying to finish off some of my painting/modelling limbo. To that end, I actually finished off my old SAG:

The blue plastic is actually a piece of plastic water bottle that the dog managed to get hold off. I'd been wondering how to get that effect, and was quite happy to have her help out .

Up till now it was just a generic ork, but now I'll have to build a mek to toss in there, great idea gobert!

Rejoice! My instar order has arrived ! More orange

I'd read some less than stellar things about instar, but the paint matches the previous batch perfectly, so no complaints there. The grottasaurus wrex and the planes will be next to get a coat of lovely orange, and I'll be adding some more colour to the models above
