That's a nice Top 5. The two dragons especially make for a great year.

Completely agree with your top model for the year, it looks really good. And I’m very impressed with the clean bright colour you managed to get on the death wing terminators.
Ambitious goals for this year, but maybe big models / tanks, could count as more than one towards your total (I.e a dragon being 5 or 10)?

@Moth: Thankfully I didn't get threatened very often if at all, but I did get called various ugly names and stuff. My new job has been a lot better, thankfully. The worst I've ever gotten from a patient so far was them being grumpy, and it wasn't really directed at me. As for the distractions, video games are my number 1 bane in that department, but I've also recently rediscovered my love for slot cars and have been redirecting some of my time, energy and money on that.

@Nev: My goals may be aggressive, but I don't want them to be too easy or there's no challenge. I think they'll be manageable as long as I just keep after it. If I miss some of them, so be it. If I can hit my target overall number, most of the others will fall into place.

@Ner0o: Thanks, and welcome to my blog!

@YWS: Yeah I'm very happy with the dragons. Thanks as always for stopping by!

@Jordy: Thanks for the complements! One rule I tend to hold myself to as far as large models is like Gimli said in the Return of the King movie after Legolas took down the Mumak: "That still only counts as one!" One effect it has is to motivate me to paint units of basic mooks just to pump up my numbers. Otherwise I might never work on basic guys as they are often not much fun compared to the big impressive models.

Not a huge amount to share, but I did finally assemble my new Tomb Kings priests:

These models will be a lot of fun to paint, and they've got a lot of fun detail on them. Putting the damn vulture on top of the mounted guy's staff was a complete PITA though thanks to tiny contact points, and I may have done it wrong but I finally just threw up my hands and said "if it fits, it sits". I got tired of fighting with it.

I need to figure out what I'm going to enter for the January challenge. The theme is Shiny New Toys, and I do have some shiny models (Stormcast Eternals and others), so I need to pick something and work on it.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Another assembly post, this time it's the War of the Rohirrim heroes:

From left to right, we have Frealaf Hildeson, Olwyn, and Lief, in both their foot and mounted versions. These models have plenty of detail and went together very well. Not sure when I'll get around to painting them, but they'll be fun when I do.

And something I assembled a little while back, but first a short story. My FLGS was having a sale around Black Friday, and one thing they were selling very cheaply was the Saturnine box set from The Horus Heresy. I could hardly say no to getting it at a 40% discount, so now I have myself a Heresy army. God help me, another project, albeit what will be a very slow burning one. Anyways, I did get a few of the models put together and took a picture, but promptly forgot to post it. So finally, here it is:

The Saturnine Praetor is a chonky boi for sure, and I chose to go with the axe as it looks cool. I went with the more utilitarian shoulder pads and left off some of the ornate details as I plan to paint my models as Alpha Legion, and they seem like they would eschew all the bling. I kind of wish I'd thought of that before I put the Mk. II Centurion together, as I would have left some of his fiddly bling off, but oh well. He was kind of a pain to assemble too, especially his cape. The Mk. II Tacticals went together very nicely and should be fairly easy to paint, and I like the way they look much better than the Mk. IIIs. I still have 30 more of those guys to put together, as well as the 6 Saturnine Termies, the Dread, and the gun turret thingy. I actually want to get a hold of some of the unique Alpha Legion models as well, like the Lernean Terminators, but that's not a major priority for me right now. I grabbed the box because it was cheap, and the Saturnine models themselves (the terminators and dreadnought) are just so cool! Ultimately I don't think I'll ever play HH competitively, so it'll be as much a hobby project as a gaming one. I've already got plans to do scale motifs on some of the models, although that will take some serious patience (I did it on a couple of panels on a Chaos Rhino way back when, it was not easy). We'll see how it evolves.

Congratulations on the new job! I worked in a hospital for about ten years before I moved overseas, and the support staff, one and all, were indispensable. We even had a few go through OJT and join the PT staff, where I worked. Are you looking to get certified in something clinical?

Thanks for posting your retrospective. I really enjoyed seeing your Tomb Kings again.

Now showing Street People and World War zombies!

Painting total as of 12/31/2025: 152 plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

Do you have a scheme in mind for the 30k marines? One thing that’s stopping me from getting more work in on mine is the daunting volume of marines that I’d have to slog through. My normal Ultra paint scheme is too many steps for the volume I have, so they sit in the Pile of Shame. If you are starting from zero, you might want to work with something like slap-chop or another technique that will let you get nice results with minimal effort. And if you can bang em out quick, that would help with your goals for the year.

The trick is to get a result you are happy with while putting in the time/work you can apply to it.
