has anyone tried this? as much as i would love to just take sledgehammer to a guardsmen and stomp him flat i fear it will lose all the detail.
I am thinking maybe if i put him in the oven he will melt and become more pliable and easier to squash without the end product being a blob of plastiv...
thoughts anyone?

Hit it with a hammer and it will smash. An oven will soften the plastic but you'll get an all over blobby effect as things like the fine detail on the face will melt first....also hard to control amount of melting.
Not sure what best method to use would be..personally I would jut use a torso up and scult some squished legs from GS...

Melting plastic is a great idea if you want to inhale toxic fumes and cough up blood. I highly recommend it for all your carcinogenic needs.
Shave him down, as you just suggested in your last post. You can make it look like he's getting squished if you file him down in the right places.

The best thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's far too late to stop reading it. |

I reckon using a file to make it look like he's having his legs being crushed by the roller and him trying a futile effort to scramble away is the way to go... I'm sure one of the "screaming sarge syndrome" guard heads and some arms used to support a lasgun will make for that perfect "oh-emperor-I'm-being-smooshed-halp!" look as he flails about screaming as he gets run over. I want to see this done

Depends on where you want to put it on the deffrola. You could cut one in half separating the front and back then heat the plastic to make it fit the rolla. Would probably work best for one already crushed and coming back down on the rolla again and you could do two for each guardsman I guess.
Probably a good idea to add detail with greenstuff as well. Flattening the model itself will basically just deform the detail and look a little wierd in my opinion.

stick him in a vice. Put something flat over the etching of the vice so it doesn't cut into him. May give you the crushed look you require.

Melting should not release any fumes, BURNING will though.

It is an experiment that must be tried!
Polystyrene starts to soften at about 90 degrees C. You might get it soft enough in a pan of boiling water.
Take care not to splash the hot water over yourself.

Heat a metal tube in the oven or in boiling water roll it down the guardsman from waist to feet , do in at a low heat a few times rather than a high heat once.

Are you going for cartoon squashed? Or realistic squashed? Because flattening out the lower half of a mini is going to be cartoon squashed. If you want a realistic, half-crushed Guardsman, you should follow BrotherOmas' advice and use GS to sculpt the pulped up parts of the poor chap.
Suggestion: Have him face up, crushed up to the waist. Arms braced against the deffrolla in a futile attempt to stop it, screaming sarge head with a little bit of greenstuff in the mouth to look like he's coughing up blood as his internal organs are crushed.

It really isnt. Me and some of my friends melted fricking plastic hot wheels cars with sparklers one time. Coughed up blood for like 2 days afterwards. Not a good idea......

Ummmm, I may not be the first to think this, but sparklers and plastic hotwheel cars? How old are you? 10?
That is without doubt one of the stupidest stories I have ever heard ( and I work with dementia patients).
OT, I like the idea. You could try cutting him in half and GSing his legs. That would work I think, you don't need much skill to make a pulped pair of limbs after all.....Good luck!

Lol actually I'm 20. We were really drunk that night at my buddies place and were looking to burn things. Not the best idea. We tend to do really stupid things when were drunk obviously...........

2 things, get a painters mask to help with the fumes and heat it in the oven to get it soft. Polystyrene melts at 240 c (464 f) so if you heat in the oven up to about 200 c(400 f) you should be able to squash it with out breaking it.

Use hot salt. I wrote a tutorial for it somewhere here on dakka. No toxic fumes and you should retain your detail.
Found it. enjoy. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/318880.page
