So my buddy madmen asked me to paint up his Belial conversion for him a little while ago. I got sidetracked by things like graduating college and other nonsense
Regardless, I finally finished painting the big bad dude. I'm very pleased with the overall result, although I'm not crazy about the banner. Anyway, here he is:

Epic fisthammer is epic. The white paint looks a bit thick, but I know what pain it is to get it right.

I like the overall impression though. A really nice paintjob.

Thanks! The paint is a bit thick in some places, namely the banner. It's using some art paint that I haven't used before and I could stand to practice with it on more models. Glad you like the fist though - I can't look at it without thinking Belial is secretly a Green Lantern

Hehe... who knows... ^^

But with all the fresh green on this model and the orange hair he seems more like an angry futuristic leprechaun warrior.

Just give him a nice little hat and a pipe and I can already see him fighting against the ethereal pimp. ^^

I can work with this, as long as he's angry enough to do more damage than the Belial model he's replacing

Looks really cool - I'll have to put up some picks of the whole bunch when I bring him home.

It looks pretty good, I too like the fisthammer! Maybe the red on the banner was a bit un-outstanding, as it should have been, and perhaps that's why you're disappointed with it.

How many layers of white did you use? Because I'm soon going to start painting my WS army...

It's an acrylic craft paint that madmen gave me to use for this - I did three coats of it to get that bone color. I'll find out what brand exactly when I get home, as long as he doesn't beat me to it

Thanks I figure this is the 4th time I've painted Lysander. I painted this conversion, a conversion I did for my own Dark Angels back when the codex came out, one straight out of the box for a commission, and one in Crimson Fists colors for my own army. Even now, I still love painting this mini.

The sigil on the shield is one vibrant shade of green! (Not complaining. It looks good.)

The white paint thing has already been pointed out, so I really can't offer any fresh criticism.

Nice job with the Dark Angels logo. Did you freehand that, or trace it?

Nice freehand. Have you ever tried washing the mini to get a smoother coat? try using an ogre flesh wash next time.

I used a wash in the recesses; Devlan Mud for the shading. The army I'm painting it for has that shade of bone, so I didn't want to wash the whole model and mess with it.

Because I don't usually paint battle damage on my models? Most people don't.

Personally, I prefer the factory fresh look myself.

It does mean us rookie painters don't have to fiddle with "ARGH this armour isn't chipped just right!!!!!"

But agreed, it does make your army shine. He looks good without battle damage.

^^ I'm pretty sure you only notice it because it's a really really close-up shot...

I mean, not everyone's Golden Daemon But you're right, I guess it's just the better you get, the more it looks like what's on the box

I'm notorious for taking entirely too close and unflattering photos of my minis. I will admit that some of the bone paint is a little thick in places.
