When do you think of your games taking place?
In the now (i.e. the end of the 41st millennium).
In the past (i.e. somewhere along the timeline).
In the future (i.e. directly after the timeline ends).
I've never really thought about it.
I've never thought about it, but now I will.

I've never really considered this before, but it just occurred to me. What time does the average 40k-er consider the battle they are playing is taking place?

Thinking about it, it makes the most sense to me that they take place at some time in the 'past' as it were.

Eye of Terra.

We just finished a campaign that predates the Heresy and takes place in the meat of the Great Crusade where various marine legions fought battles against assorted alien races. Some from the books, some that I have created to test the "mettle" of the players.

We have a Heresy campaign going on now using a lot of Forge World miniatures.

Most commonly I think battles tend to be considered in the here and now, at least for us.

I play in the now. I've wanted to do some "historical" games, like some Armageddon battles with my IG and some Orks, but I'm yet to have any. My personal fluff is a perpetual battle over the planet Bolo in the Santosi sector that doesn't really have any bearing on the greater fluff overall.

In their background they are discovered just after the 13th Black Crusade 'stalls'
