Here I have ALL of my Fields maxed out. I have my two HQ, My three Elite, 6 Troops, 3 fast attacks and 3 heavy all in a single list UNDER 2500 points. Lemme know what you think!

I figure even though Gretchen are Squishy. The Big Meks placed just right along side of them will be just fine. Any tank built army is gonna be ripped appart by the Lootas, Zaap guns and if those are not good enough the saw blades and twin linked rocket launchas that can outflank my opponents DeffKoptas while the troops and guys themselves find themselves swamped with tons of Gretchen. Of course they are not as strong as orks but there is a LOT more of them therefore it evens out. Sure your troops can take out twice as many of my Gretchen as boyz but I got more Gretchen then I had boyz so its even. Plus Poisoned weapons are better then some Choppa anywho!

You should have kans in there. That many gretchin with that many big meks should have kan o' spam (according to fluff). No idea if kan's are any good, as I'm not an "ork playa", but reading fluff for kans you should have them. A lot of them. Because they're still grots in the same way a dreadnaught is still a space marine.

I agree - and if you really want to get into grots check out the grot tanks on the forgeworld website - use them as Killa Kans

Current Armies:

Durgen attrition 50

WH40K:
Orks (5,000 pt Apoc Kan Wall, 1850 Bikerz)

Lost

They are auto killed almost as bad as boys TBO by most ordnance.

Competitively I would get kans.

I would not get a KFF as if you are going to get one of them, they need to cover pretty much the whole force. With good target priority the opponent would almost definitely try to kill the grots not under the template first. SAGs would be far more worth it.

Although it would be a lot of fun to get AI 8 grot tanks, as they are one of the most hilariously ruled vehicles in the whole of 40k.

I always liked the Grot Revolutionary Society, or GRS. People normally count them as guard. That way you would not be wasting the 100 odd pounds on miniatures that are only going to be used for a bit of fun. Or however much it would cost in Canadian Dollars.

These lists are actually more common then you think, although they normally are based more around ranged support. You know a few units of AI 8 gun wagons with supa kannons, 30 or so lootas, SAGs. That kind of thing.

Big Gunz are cool but I think Kanz are cooler. I would add Warbuggies instead of Koptas as they work better in squadrons, you could use Forge World Grot Tanks for these.
