If an IC starts the game attached to a unit with a Jokaero Weaponsmith would they benefit from the Jokaero's unit upgrades? e.g Rending weapon.
>Yes, they are part of the unit.

If so then if said IC left the unit would they retain the Jokaero's bonus?.
>Yes/No.

Yes, because it is a game-long benefit, as described in the weaponsmith rules.

Based solely on the wording of the Inconceivable Customization, I would have to say when you leave the squad you forfeit the bonuses. The reason I say that is that it specifically says the unit (And before anyone points out that it's a broad topic to call something the unit, earlier in the rules it specifically says Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband so I go with the belief that "the unit" refers to the Warband). Since it uses the phrase "in the unit" for every subset portion of the rule, I would say that the upgrades only continue to function so long as the IC is a part of the unit, and was a part of the unit at deployment when the ability is rolled for.

Additionally I understand that when it says "in the unit" it can be meant that when the rule is rolled for that models in the unit gain the bonus. Really it could go either way, but I stand by my thoughts on the matter.

I had always read it as the Jokaero's unit has the bonus, not models in the unit being granted a bonus.

Perhaps splitting hairs, but there it is.

So when the jokaero dies they lose the bonus?

No, the bonus is graqnted at the start of the game, the IC is a member of the unit so therefore gains the bonus. Nothing requires him to stay with it to benefit from it - its a one time bonuus, not duration

I think "the unit" means the Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband. I think it if was meant to be passed on to transient members of the unit it would say so. Contrast this to the Dark Eldar Lhamaens rule, which specifies who gets the benefit and when.

No...I misread.

The "All results apply for the duration of the game" bit is something I think I just blocked out.

So, the IC is a member of the unit at the start of the game (multiple refs, p48 and 49)

He gains the bonus at this point

This bonus lasts for the duration of the game

The IC has this bonus for the duration of the game, no matter which unit he is in; it is not a persistent check

... I think the answer might be stranger then that nos ...

When Jokaero is deployed he makes the upgrades ... While it is possible to reserve and deploy an IC as part of a unit, an IC must be deployed within coherency of a unit to join them at the start of the game... but since he joins them after the Jokaero customisation he can't get it.

Tri - read the new BRB FAQ, where they explicitly changed the timing of when you join ICs to units in order to mae Shrikes infiltration work.

You now join units at deployment.

... well that's good but damn it I wish they'd include rule changes in the errata section.
