Subject: Help building Army Builder files from scratch?

The Last Chancer Who Survived

So, I want to create Army Builder files for my new game.. I've been using ABCreate to make the data files, but I just can't figure out what I'm doing. I think the techieness of it is a little beyond me. Does anyone happen know how to build Army Builder files for a brand new game, totally from scratch, and if so, would you like to make them for my game?
I can't pay you, because I'm poor, but I could hook you up with a printed rulebook and maybe some free minis once I start getting them produced (which should be soon).
Just PM me here or reply if you'd like to help out

I believe all the files are created by volunteers. Perhaps the AB forums?

Well, I think it's volunteers in the case GW's games and others, that could lead to a lawsuit or something. I think anyone can make rules for any game they want, just gotta learn how the program works
I posted on their forums too, just thought I'd try here too since I know lots of dakka folks use AB too

I think the idea is something he can distribute for his game more than just doing personal math.
If the army construction rules are simple enough, it would almost make sense to see if you can find a student web developer to make you something custom you can host. Cross-platform and can be used to promote your stuff.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy. |

Yeah, I kind of skimmed it. I'm not quite sure then.

Most people use Army Builder because there's no better alternative for their game system. Plus, AB costs money and threatens you if you use the term "Army Builder".
Take a look at Infinity. They have their on-site free army list creator and nobody uses AB there.
If you get your on-site list creator up and running it'll make AB an expensive redundancy.

use Battlescribe.net
The program is java based but the author of it is willing to open the datafiles so any one can build or host there game on his system. Its really a great tool and doesnt require any knowledge of coding to work!

Hmm good point. I just figured it would be nice to create AB files that could be like "official" instead of made by fans like 40K's files are.
I have a lot of big plans for the online gang builder, but the programming is way beyond me and I worry I won't be able to afford a real programmer to do it for me. I did have one guy interested who I found on Board Game Geek, and we were ironing out all the details, then he just vanished.
