Deranged Necron Destroyer
|
HQ:
- Necron Overlord w/ Staff of Light, Phaeron, Phylactery, Sempiternal weave, Phase Shifter and Resurrection Orb - 215
-Destroyer Lord w/ Sempiternal weave - 140
-Royal Court - 2 x Necron Lord w/ Resurrection Orb - 130
Troop:
- Necron Warriors x 20 - 260
- Necron Warriors x 10 - 130
- Necron Warriors x 10 - 130
Elite:
- C'tan Shard w/ Entropic Touch and Gaze of Death - 245
Fast Attack:
- Canoptek Scarabs x 10 - 150
- Necron Destroyers x 5 - 200
Heavy Support:
- Necron Monolith - 200
- Necron Monolith - 200
Total - 2000
The plan is for the Overlord to join the unit of 20 warriors to give them relentless. The two Lords take the smaller squads. I start with one Monolith in play to give myself blast templates as well as ordnance, and to deep strike in the other. Keep the scarabs in reserve and phase them through the deep striked monolith's eternity gate to chew through his armour. Destroyers zoom around shooting up his more elite units whilst the warriors take on the rank and file, and the Destroyer Lord throws himself into combat with aggravating shooting units such as stormtroopers. Lastly, the C'tan moves forward and wreaks havoc wherever he can, draining the men for wounds and punching through tanks where possible.
What do you think?

I know they can't assault immediately, but they will be assaulting ASAP.

Yeah, I agree, my Destroyer Lord will probably need the survivability against Hot-Shot Lasguns and their ilk.

Hot-shot Lasguns against T6? I wouldn't worry about that.. I'd worry about the lack of invulnerable save on Destroyer Lords.. keep him hidden until he can get straight into combat.

Not being able to give Destroyer Lord a Phase Shifter made me sad... Ah well, can't have everything I suppose. I agree with you, though, I'll try and keep him out of LOS where possible, but I don't know if I'll be able to hop from building to building until I see the set-up, so I have to plan for contingencies. Do you agree, or would you say the Sempiternal weave is a waste? I can probably find somewhere else neat to shove those 15 points if you think so. Of course, it has just occured to me that I can deep strike the Destroyer Lord in should I wish to do so, so if there was a clear area I could fly him down behind a building and wait, though that might be pretty risky.

Lets be honest here, the Destroyer Lord is a beatstick, and a fairly decent one at that. Think of him as you would think of Mephiston, albeit on a much smaller power scale - no invulnerable save, but big, tough and good at whacking things. Walk him up behind something bigger (ie Monolith) and just hop him over the top when in assault range, or join him to the other Destroyers to act as counter-assault until he gets within range to chop some things up. Trust me though, Destroyer Lord with a Phase Shifter is insanely powerful.. the simple difference that 3++ grants.. you would not believe it. Game changing. Yes, I had the misfortune of playing against an opponent who believed incorrectly that D Lords could have Shifters. 2+ is a wise investment when you're in combat.. however I wouldn't necessarily say it's a great choice. I mean, he's going to be facing power weapons/fists and the like in combat, almost certainly, and then there's Lascannons and Plasma guns galore these days. I'd probably go with walking him up behind a 'lith.. but depending on terrain/deployment type, there's endless other tactics you could use.

So you're saying I should keep Sempiternal weave for him? I like the walking behind 'lith idea, it's gonna be powering forward slowly anyway, but my problem is that if he's only moving the 6" of a monolith each turn it'll be a long time until he can actually get into combat
