The tactic is a squad of 5 lychguard with shields infront with a squad of 5 lychguard with warscythes right behind them, the warscythes get cover saves and the "unit" gets ALOT of killyness as the warscythes assualt either the same unit as the shield or another one. this would cost 425 pts (plus a lesser lord with a res orb if you wanted, probably a good idea) what do guys think?

Interesting but your really going to still have dedicated combat units string the warsythes and ignore the shield guys. If only we could mix and match like TH/SH LC termies.

How could they string the warscythes? I imagine the warscythes and inch or two behind the sheilds, as if they were the same unit but not being in the same unit, is there a minimum distance that different units must be away from others?

Might do pretty well but in any list south of 2000 points its way too much of a heat sink.
Also flanking for shooting/assault could cause you some concern, a wall of 5 men is easy enough to get around for the majority of maneuverable units in the game, especially for such a slow moving phalanx

Understood, still, say a 2500pt game so its maybe 8 shields and 6 scythes, while VERY expensive, it would spell UTTER DOOM for any against it.

I ran something similar with a lychguard sheild formation guarding a royal court, It worked fairly well, trouble was a group of assualt marines that managed to jump over both units then assault the royal court alone.
I could also see this being negated by any sort of fast vehicle or out flanking type of unit.
