I'm stuck at an impasse and I could use the help of the wise and noble people of DakkaDakka. I'm interested in picking up the hobby of 40k again and starting a new army. The only thing that is preventing me from going out and picking up some stuff to get started is the fact I still have my Guard army that I started with. I would like to sell this off before I begin anything new, but I do miss the joy of assembling and painting up a new, fresh batch of troops.

Has anyone been in this situation before and what did you do? Thanks.

Just keep it. You never know when you might want to play them again.

I still have 1850 points worth of Salamanders in a tacklebox from when I played 4 years ago. Every now and then I feel like stripping them and repainting them, though that always gets put on hold while I work on my new stuff.

I just sold my dark elfdars off to pay for more important things. I decided that one army was enough, and that my true love is for the forces of chaos.

It's a tough decision, and as long as you don't have anything immediately vintage, it's a safe bet to just sell it off and start anew. I'd personally keep all the metal models I could get my hands on, and do indeed regret selling my metal archon.

What are you thinking about starting now?

Ironically I'm set on Dark Eldar. I've always liked their look and play style, even when I was working on and playing with my Guard. I am planning on keeping one of my Sentinels, I put a lot of work into painting it and don't wish to part with it and maybe one of my metal Commissars.

Keeping them probably would be the best idea.
