With the new FAQ..guard can now take a priest/tech priest as your mandatory 1 hq..which for me thinking.. Why can't the same now be said for greater demons in the chaos space marine codex? Since at the top of it's intertwine is worded just the same as the priest/tech priest innthe guard codex.

Can't you see we have been abandoned? Forget matters of duty and honor to the emperor this is now a matter of pride.

It's probably the thing about having to consume/ take over a character/ squad leader to enter the field.

Hmm ok that makes some sense. You could buy an hq that could have no way of even entering the field.

Can someone share the link to where this can be found. Seem to have some difficulty finding this. Not saying I would do this on a normal day, however, there is a 750 point tournament in the near future, and, that techpriest would be great to save some points and have robust HQ.

javascript:emoticon(''); 3,000 pointsjavascript:emoticon('');

2,000 points

265 point detachment

Imperial Knight detachment: 375

Iron Hands: 1,850

where ever you go, there you are

Huh, just noticed. How strange.

I can't see why I would ever actually want to do this for a guard army, given how good CCSs are. Heck, I'd take the psyker over the priest, and I like priests.

Interesting note about an entire platoon counting as a "unit" even when they're not, though...

I got jazzed about the techpriest untill I remembered they are not independent characters. they also have no dedicated transport option.

The new FaQ only clarified the position.

This has been legal for a long time.

To answer your question, the CSM codex Specifically disallows you to have a Summoned Greater Daemon as your only HQ selection:

"Summoned Greater Daemons...Exist outside the force org chart, and are chosen in addition to your normal minimums and maximums, as outlined in the section in the back of the army list.". P.89 CSM Codex

"Did you notice a sign out in front of my chapel that said "Land Raider Storage"?" -High Chaplain Astorath the Grim Redeemer of the Lost.

What?

CSM can't take them because "exists outside the force org chart", but guard should have always been able to despite "do not use up any force org chart selections"?

Yes, because the Black Templars Emperor's Champion can occupy the slot as well.

Basically the only reason Chaos doesn't is theirs specifically disallows it.

@Ailaros.

"exists outside the force org chart" Is different than "do not use up any force org chart selections"

The CSM Codex explicitly states that you can not have a Summoned Greater Daemon as your only HQ selection.

The IG, and as Unit1126PLL pointed out, the Black Templars Emperor's Champion can occupy the slot.

Unit1126PLL wrote: The only reason Chaos doesn't is theirs specifically disallows it.

This is why.
